a splendid chap, unlike some bitches on here Member 1670, 1705 posts SQ 190, BP 112.5, DL 220522.5 kgs @ 89.5kgs UnEq | Post Edited: 20.03.2011 @ 13:12 PM by SMed Stats:Height: 175cm/5'9" Weight: 85kg/187lbs/13 and 5 stone Squat: 150kg (from this summer, but my reps are stronger now) Bench: 90kg (from this summer, but my reps are stronger now) Deadlift: 170kg (from this summer, but my reps are stronger now) I reckon I could go for 160/95/185 now, but I haven't tested yet. Maybe in a couple of weeks. I'm a medical student so the frequent exams tend to f**k up my training. I now have a home gym so I will be much more consistent around exam time. I'm originally from Texas, but now live permanently in the UK (at least for the foreseeable future). I was using the Starting Strength for pretty much my entire training career (year and a half?). It was great, and I just kept hopping back on every time I had a long break. I'm now going to do Bill Starr's/Madcow's 5x5 routine. I'm using this calculator/spread sheet. This is will also be slightly modified.

tabbouleh and fattoush salads were very refreshing Member 267, 8548 posts SQ 220, BP 165, DL 250635.0 kgs @ 90kgs Eq | keep it up. Frequent exams, yes, but you'll never have as much freedom. Wait until you qualify! EWTD keeps you protected (somewhat) but there'll be days when training will be impossible, even with the best intentions. My advice to you would be to keep your routines simple and effective. If you want to do powerlifting, stick to the big three and keep your assistance basic eg dips, chins, abs. You want to get in and get out. I've also found that with what I do, training by feel is better than following a prescribed routine. It's easier once you've had a few years' lifting under your belt as you'll understand your body better. Think of training opportunistically; if you're in the gym and you're feeling strong, then go for a PB (rep or max effort) as you may not get the chance for another 10 days. If you're feeling s**te, keep the weight low and do some volume with it. You get the picture.

I'm waiting for FPAS results to come out before I can think about which jobs to go to but everyone's been saying EWTD means sod all. A friend is frequently going over the EWTD limits - she filled out her timesheet accurately and HR gave her a huge bollocking about it - they either wanted her to stick to her hours absolutely or lie on the timesheet. They had no interest in actually solving the understaffing on the firm, just in making the numbers look good. Needless to say, if I get into this foundation school then there's no way in hell I'm applying to any jobs at that hospital.

They had no interest in actually solving the understaffing on the firm, just in making the numbers look good. What the previous Labour government didn't understand was that adhering to any sort of time directive is something doctors will never do. This is not some sort of factory job where you clock in and clock out. When you get more senior |(reg level and above) you'll realize that when you take a case on with 15 mins left on your shift, you're going to stay the f**k in hospital until you know that that patient is going to be ok. Additionally, if you do a surgical speciality and one of your patients develops a complication, you're going to stay behind and sort that patient out, not hand him over to the on-call coming on at 5. It's professional dignity. The problem is that your pay will be calculated according to your EWTD calculated hours. It gets annoying when you realize that you're giving 40-50hrs unpaid work away each month but s**t happens. When I did my house jobs (I'm not going to bore you with how old I am!), doctors went on call at lunchtime on Friday and finished on Monday morning! Nearly 72hrs of continuous work. The pay was good though.

I tried to covertly film him due to the hilarity of it all, but it wasn't working. Later I realised that I did in fact get some hilarious footage. We also call that guy Captain McHalf-Squat, for obvious reasons.

The next few weeks will be hard on training, but from Jan-April will be pretty decent as the hospital has a small but well equipped little gym that the rugby lads "train" in. Why don't rugby lads know how to lift? lol EDIT: To clarify, it's not really the exams that f**k up my training, it's the failing and subsequent resits that royally put me in the s**t. I suck at [studying for] exams, though the clinical years seem promising so far.

Yeah, the guy is an idiot prick. He's one of those type of guys that thinks he has to comment and help every lifter in the gym. And then, McHalf-Squat was telling some chump the other day he doesn't squat to parallel because he never bends his legs that much in his sport. I'm waiting for him to 'help' me at some point.
