Cheers guys, was an okay session, I don't thnk i was recovered from Axle Overhead on Weds though as i was all the place on the dumbell! Next week it will be Axle OH on Mon, d'bell on Fri.

Joni - nah mate you and The Spug beat me down in that comp', I think there was like a point or two between the three of us or something. This means its one all going into Will's comp'.

Millsy - I am looking forward to it mate, I have never done any of these events in competition before so it should be a good learning experience! Also, with the weights as they are I will be busting my balls trying to ge the heavier ones - whether or not I get there remains to be seen but hopefully it will push me on anyway.

Mon 21st Sept

2" Bar Push Press (1 x continetal then presses)

50kg x 8
80kg x 5
90kg x 5
95kg x 3, 3, 3, 1

Sandbag Floor to Shoulder

105kg x 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1

Most of the singles had an attempted and failed 2nd rep. Last rep was probably the best.

Tough session, one of those days where everything bar the 50kg presses felt very heavy.

Nice sandbag work mate. Three doubles with a 105 must have had you blowing a bit?

I found this off an old message board(f**k i must have been fit then) about 5 years ago. The 100 rep workout was a nice one. I was really into the sandbag then, but snapped tendons in fingers f**ked things up. Its a great tool but be careful, especially with looser bags.
Glad you're enjoying it.

Sandbag training = shouldering a 92k sandbag 55 times in 20 minutes at 95 bw, shouldering 136k sandbag x1 at same bw, shouldering 110k sandbag for 20 reps in 20 minutes same bw, shouldering 100k bag for 60 reps then dropping to 82k bag for further 40 reps in an hour ( i think) lost all records on that one).

Clean + push press 92k bag

For the record i think sandbag training is the ultimate strength/ conditioning workout you can do, very simple yet very very effective, made me feel like Superman. The only training i've performed where its taken some major "psyching up" especially in Winter to endure 20 minutes of hell. Got strong as a bull on it. I'll give it a few more months then see if my hand can take it again,.......... @#%$ i miss the bag.

Cheers

That really is awesome lifting mate. I probably need to get more psyched up for the sandbag. I aready hurt my hand on the 75kg bag on the first session with it, only thing that has really bothered it though is the squats i did yesterday! Next session I will really go for it, thanks for the inspiration!

When you say you got "As strong as a bull from it," did you notice any improvements in other areas of your lifting or just on your sandbag work?

Thanks mate, My example above was just to show you how far you can get in a relatively short time. I still singly think it was the best bang for buck exercise there is.

Johnny (Mills), i've worked construction all my life and sandbag training made my work an absolute breeze. I set my stall out for a full year of this whilst doing maybe an 18" DL every few weeks, just because i love DL'sHappy . The goal was to eventually nail a 115 bag shouldered for 50 reps in 20 minutes, OR a 136 bag for 10 reps in 20 minutes. My other exercise was headstand pressups against a wall. I worked up to 25 straight off, and 100 in 30 minutes at 95 bw. It was an experiment and a break from the barbell.
I lost no strength on my barbell lifts after 3 months on this and i'm convinced it got me a 260 DL later in the year at that time.
One day i'll just do this sort of training all the time, sandbag and a barbell DL and nothing else.

Sorry for the long reply and hijacking your thread Ben, i get carried away..........

Oh yeah cardio wise it was the best. Its hard to explain but i just used to feel strong all the time with sandbag training.

Friday 25th Sept 2009

Set off to train at HHH but the M6 was all jammed up so turned back only to sit in traffic for 25mins to make the 5min return journey. After this I was as mad as a sack full of badgers knowing that I would have to wait for the traffic to clear before I could even get to Lancaster to train. So I dosed up on strong coffee and Smart-Tec Xcelr8 and eventually set off again...

18" Deadllifts

60 x 5
100 x 5
150 x 4
190 x 4
220 x 4
250 x 4
270 x 3
290 x 3
300 x 2 (these are a LOT easier on an oly bar!)

Weird, cos Monday I felt fresh and strugled with everything yet tonight I was sore pretty much everywhere and lifted well - maybe being mentally fired up is what counts more???

Hammer Strength Pull-Downs

40 a-side x 12
50 a-side x 10
50 a-side x 7
