bigbadbish said:Southern Qualifier for ESM

Axle Reps - Joint 2nd
150x4 in 60" Went well on this, especially as it was a tough fixed-end axle.

Tyre Flip - 1st
450x6flips in 22". Same tyre as UK 105s a couple of years ago so I was confident on this.

Deadlift - 1st
300x9 in 60" pulled 8 in 30" then rested for 15" before pulling the final rep for the win. 10 was there today.

Yoke - 2nd
380x30m with turn @15m in 29". Was a bit tough and wobbly on the uneven surface so took it steady.

At this point Chris Gearing had 41 points and I had 40.5 points. Nether one of us could be caught so we both decided not to do stones. Who know what would have happened if we did stones... Grin

Was a well run comp and we even managed to beat the heavy rain so well done to Terry and his team. Happy to qualify for ESM next week. I actually feel pretty fresh so I think I'll squat and press on Monday.

Awesome

You're the kind of strongman everyone should strive to be like...improving year on year through good training programming and lots of hard graft

Congratulations Bish !!

Seems like all the top strongman in the UK are getting lighter and athletic these days but the static strength is still right up there with the big giant lads .

JT told me all them years ago that "Bish will go all the way to the top"

He's a wise man and you might hit your peak in 10 years !

Frightening !!!

England's Strongest Man 2014

Obviously not the best prep for this with the late qual the week before but these things happen. Felt pretty good going into this apart from my on going battles with patella tendonitis.

Yoke 380kg 40m - 3rd
My yoke has really been struggling recently with my knee issues so took it bit steadier than usual. Happy with 3rd place on this with 30(ish)sec.

Arm Over Arm - 8th?
Dunno what happened here really. There was a big break while they sorted the weight out for this pull as there were some issues to begin with. Might have lost a bit of focus but I think my grip just gave out on the rope. Not my best event.

Truck Deadlift - 1st
Was looking forward to making up for the previous event on this. Went out pretty early but Luke had set me a good target of 15. The strict reffing in regards to the suspension and the lift command made controlling the weight down very important on this. I lowered the first 10 reps slowly which allowed me to get the lift command earlier. Did 16 reps and it held up for the win.

Max Axle Press - Joint 1st
Last man standing style. Opening lift was billed as 140 but I think the collars made it 145. This got a bit confusing later on so the weight might be 5 kg less or more than I'm stating here. Did opener and my knee was screaming. Got the 155 and 160 and only 4 of us were left. Myself and Ben got the 165 and then the 170 so we went for 175. Ben missed it and I cocked up the clean a bit. Over the moon with joint 1st. I think its the first time in my career that I have won a pressing event.

Stones - No idea
First stone slid off the platform which cost me some time. Did the 110, 125, 145, 165 then failed the 185. Hamstrings were toast.

Overall 2nd
Finished 2nd to Ben by half a point.

I didn't realise it was so close between us actually even going into stones. I was just happy I was safe for qualifying for the UKs. Happy I pushed Ben so close on the big stage.

Most pleased with my Axle press. I've been training axle and log every week for the last 8 months just trying to add a kilo a week and the consistent training has really worked.

Now 7 weeks (s)training for UKs starts tomorrow.
