Hi mate, enjoying reading your journal. Can I ask about your deadlift training days. Do you find it beneficial to do all your deadlifting type movements on the same day as opposed to say doing your main deadlift and 1 assistance on Mondays, and doing other deadlift assistance on your squat day?

Basically I would love to do deadlifts, SLDL and block/rack pulls on the same day but I worry about over-training, so I tend just to do deadlift/front-squats Monday and squat/deficit deads on Thursday. Any suggestions?

Good luck for this year mate, hope you make it to UKSM again.

I believe the human body can handle a lot more than people give it credit for as long as it is given time to adapt to a slow increase in training load. I tried recently doing some deadlift after my squats and did not get on with it, so I built up my deadlifting volume on the one day and I like it.

I now take a day off both before and after my deadlift sessions in order to recover a little better and make sure I get plenty of sleep. I have had no issues so far.

I think many people undertrain as opposed to overtrain if I'm totally honest. I don't think a guy who trains in the gym 4-5 times a week for 1-2 hours can actually develop overtraining syndrome as long as they keep their work/personal life in control and eat/sleep enough. Overtraining syndrome is more of an elite level athlete phenomenon IMO.

There is no right or wrong way with training, it's all about finding out what works for YOU. I tried it out after seeing Dan Green's training sessions and the amount of work he manages to get in and it seems to be working for ME so far. Try as many things out for yourself and see what works for you even if "experts" say it is wrong. If all your numbers keep going up whats the problem? Happy

Thanks for this I found it very useful. I don't think I'm in danger of over-training yet but I really find recovery hard between sessions. I eat enough but I don't sleep much so maybe that's the key. I'll try adding another deadlift variant in and see how things go. Cheers
