Mainly for all the experienced guys, what are the biggest mistakes you have made in your training which have halted your progress, led to an injury or made you go backwards? Overtrained and worn out, ego lifts gone wrong, lifting without spotters, you know, the kinds of mistakes you would strongly advise less experienced trainees against, and the kinds of things which may be common mistakes people make, cheers.

Amen to that - i wouldnt class myself as an experience lifter in the sense that ive only been lifting properly for around 6 months but its amazing how you think your squatting, benching, deadlifting etc properly until someone shows you how it should be done.

I'm the same as pete. Trying to go it alone was my biggest mistake. Got injured a few times with pulled muscles and lack of knowledge.

Now I swallow up vast amounts of esoteric knowledge from books, people and forums Grin

Carefull here mate. Not everything thats written down is correct, and the majority of "knowledgable trainers" on forums are pretty clueless.

If you want to be good at something the only knowledge worth a wank is from someone who can do/ has done it already. Carry on learning from books and you'll end up saying the wrong thing and getting eaten off Andy Bolton.

Not using basic power / strength lifts but pissing about with cables and dumbells etc far too much.

Apart from that previously stated for me I'd say not doing any core work! Has made such a difference for me.

Training too basic!! Only doing core compound exercises and not spending enough time with assitance exercises (the opposite of most!!).

Training too heavy for too long without deloading or resting enough.

The biggest mistakes i made were not knowing enough about nutrition.

Once this was sorted my training went through the roof and still is!

If this is a "training mistake" I'm making it (apart from the bit about resting enough)!!

True there are some pretty clueless text book coaches knocking about and even making a fooooking fortune training people ...

often people enjoy to baffle new lifters with fancy words and microcycles but actually the art of lifting weights isn`t actually as complicated as some people would like other people to beleive ..

Every time I listen to advice from Smallsy is a mistake.

Other than that, not listening to advice from people who are actually in the know.

not consistently adding the weight to the bar when able

not training in a consistent manner because of chopping and changing my routine too much

letting things affect my rest and recovery that weren't important, and not doing anything about it
