a deload week is where you reduce one or more factors in your training to allow you body to recuperate. You can choose from frequency (i.e. how many days a week you lift), volume (how many total sets/reps you do) or load (how much weights on the bar).

Personally i like to deload by dropping frequency and volume, so i'll just do 2 sessions in my deload week, and in them i'll just pick say 3 excersises and do one working set of each.

You need to do this regularly for most benefit.

I dont think Smolov is necessarily a totally bad thing mate, even for a beginner...I just think you'd need to set a fairly conservative projected max and obey the 'rules' (i.e. do nothing but squat, really. Smolov is a lot of strain on the CNS even without 2 bench days).

On a side note, you should be deloading one week in 4 or 5 anyway really mate. Impossible to make progress otherwise.

thats great mate thanks. Our lass is a physio so its pretty easy for me to get professional advice thankfully! I will be giving them a go, but i think i'll wait for pain to ease 1st.

starting a new training plan today will be training squat 4 days a week, also 1 day bench, and one day bench assistance.

wow good luck with that mate, Smolov is meant to be the daddy of all squat programs. Good luck with doing 2 bench days as well !!!

could you explain mate, do you think it would help subscaular impingement? My shoulders are both crocked at the moment.

yeah im really starting to doubt the benefits of very heavy OHP. Id just hit ohp for reps and use push press for really heavy stuff.

Is there any other kind of 15 year old yank?

according to the internet the main kinds seem to be:

- loonatic black coat wearing gunmen who practise marksmanship at schools
- crazily overanimated computer game players
- smartarse 60kg 'bodybuilders' who post on forums a lot !

100% agree Jim. The speed of his 440 at the british just confirms it.

dont know what happend to that reply but it was i hope your shoulder gets better ben mate, and what are db nose breakersConfused Happy

thanks bud. Erm they're like a Lying Tricep Extension, or some call them Skullcrushers.

A little like this:
http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Triceps/BBLyingTriExtSC.ht...

but you lower the DB's to your nose. It works more the long head of the tricep that helps with lockout.

Boar- did the suit make it difficult for you to get your shoulders back at the top of the deadlift? Otherwise i cant see why you would want to ditch it, id imagine yours gives a lot more pop off the floor. Btw is your suit for a sumo lifter or conventional because if you were lifting in a suit designed for a sumo stance then.....

Ben- what are your numbers, you should put them on the virtual powerlifting leaderboard?

best: 235/170/215

not in comp.

well depending exactly where, front squats could work very well then. Dont worry you came over ok to me im not always the most politest lad int world anyway...just the other day i said to a lass "DOnt be blunt, show us your C.." and let her fill in the gaps.

What Ice meant (i think) is that, if all factors are in place, and you have no specific weak points, when you fail a sq, it should be in the hole as thats where the biomechanics of the body are weakest.
