Date confirmed as May 13thHappy new year everyone
For the 5th year in a row the DAWC will be pleased to host this awesome competition and we hope to see the usual high standard of athletes do battle for a title that has only been won by 4 athletes since it's introduction in 2006
The date is yet to be confirmed as we want to make sure it does not clash with any other competition in what is an ever expanding strongman calendar.
We would like to hold the comp in late June, however with under 90s, UKSC SSM, BSM under 105s and other possible comps we will exercise our flexibility of possible dates and wait till other comps are set in stone before we confirm to avoid anything clashing
I did however want to take this chance to announce the events, allowing all potential athletes the opportunity to practice the disciplines required to participate in the competition
So here goes
Event 1 Max log, last man standing (hoping to brake the max log lift currently held by Andy Patrick and Frank Connely)
Event 2 Sand bag load (exact same as the current heats of WSM only difference bags will be 230lb not 275, head to head)
Event 3 Truck pull (big ass truck, on concrete)
Event 4 Axle deadlift (15 inch height 270k for reps straps and suits allowed, head to head)
Event 5 Frame carry (280kg frames head to head for max distance at 20m turning points, same frames as last years BSM)
Event 6 Arnold style stones ( stones 160k, 144k or 130k one lift with heavier stone trumps any amount of lifts at lighter weight)
Like every other year we have picked 6 new events to keep the athletes developing the broadness of their strongman skills and to keep the crowed entertained
I will answer a few questions before I am asked them,
logs opening weight will be 80kg with 10kg jumps, this might appear light but it is last man standing and am quite happy to let the less inexperienced guys get a few lifts in safe in the knowledge that the bigger pressers will still be battling it out at the end.
truck pull will be on concrete and will be over 20m, athletes would be advised to use rock climbing shoes if available and it will be with rope to front not just harness.
Axle deadlift will be the axles that where used at both last years SSM and BSM, athletes will be standing on 3inch block and pull from 15inch for reps with 270kg both straps and suits allowed
Sandbag load will be 4 230lb ironmind sand bags over 12m and onto a platform similar to that used in worlds strongest man
Frame carry will be same frame used in BSM for time, but with a 20kg drop to 280kg as it's for max distance
And stones will be arnolds style, tacky allowed and height will be a respectable 48inch
Thank you for taking the time to read info, I wish all athletes a very productive period of training from now until then. Any other questions I have not covered will be answered in due time.
Training sessions with the kit will be available closer to comp and anyone wishing to come through and train is more than welcome.
The top 3 athletes will also have their traveling expenses and accommodation paid for for the competition that leads on from this.
The victory Viking helmet resides at the Daly household and I am sure many men will have aspirations to wrestle this title away from the 2 x champion, but will the old legend want to let go of it? Time will only tell, look forward to seeing you all at the DAWC again this year for another strength battle

Aesome set of events and really excited about giving this a go. Just out of interest what is the max log record sitting at? Not that I think I'll be getting anyhere near it, just curious.
