Well, my comment was partly tongue in cheek, as I would think I'm a bit stronger than 'actual' average. However, I also would have thought I was a lot weaker than 'Sugden' average, which is an altogether different thing, due to the number of absolute freaks on here! Is that true? If so I'm quite surprised. How do you know the average on here?

Someone mentioned the median average before. It's very un-average like. We could also debate the use of averages and how meaningless they can be lol

LOL. Do you think ther 100,000s footballers registered in the UK worry about not being of the ability of Rooney or Gerrard! Stupid comment!
I wish I was as strong as Brian Shaw, but being average strength (or whateva strength we are perceived to be) isnt one of my main concerns in life!

If you look at the number of people on the unequipped powerlifting league, you can find the halfway point on the table and use that as the median.
There are a lot of "weaker" people to balance the freaks on here tbh.

Theres a big big world outside of sugden on here I would say I'm pretty average but in the strength world in general I'm still pretty weak even when you take age into consideration

On another (sport related) forum I kicked off a thread about training a couple of years ago. It's 7000 odd replies long now. There's a crude competition (by wilks, and I accept calculated maxes from 2-6 rep sets).
There's some good athletes on there, guys who play or have played at a decent level, including some who have been semi-pro. And, there are a few strong guys who haven't entered the comp (guy with a 600lb deadlift for instance, doesn't tell us his weight)
Right now, I top the wilks for back squat, front squat, deadlift and squat/bench/dead total. There are only two of us with a wilks score over 100 for the squat.

I'd love to be average strength. If I was average strength, I might finally be able to get that damn 70kg log above my head!

This is very true.
I bet the average person perceives a "strong man" to be muscular and shaped more like a bodybuilder, whereas most of the very strong men do not look like that at all.

This is very true, but I'll be f**ked if I'm gonna sit here and work out the mean!

median isn't the best measure but it's not a mile off. This is the data for a few more useful things when you remove all the 0's for people so as to not skew it too much.
The data includes the entire powerlifting league, equipped or otherwise
With as many entries as there are, it's not a bad sample size.
For those not familiar with standard deviation (stdev), if you're 1 stdev more than the mean you're fairly exceptional. 2 above and you're basically a freak of nature but I'm guessing you would already realise that!
Not 100% accurate but certainly more reliable than just median.
