Unit 20 Classic - 12th MarchEvent 1: 105kg axle floor to overhead
1 rep plus a crazy battle with the 2nd clean which almost saw me take it head first backwards through a window :P the effort of that meant I couldnt lock out the press...funny yes but I was annoyed I didnt get the 2nd rep really after all that. I think I must have aggravated a shoulder niggle in the fight with the axle as it was bugging a bit later on in the day and now I am having to avoid tryng to use my arm much as it hurts a wee bit
Event 2: Deadlift
Opened with an easy enough 220kg, went for straps for 2nd lift at 230, thnking I would save grip for farmers later. But I knew it was a mistake afterwards as the bar felt like it was away forwards due to the double overhand grip and above my knees it stalled and I couldnt get into position to lock it out. I didnt realise I could have had another attempt before time ran out which I would have got without straps as the underhand would have put me more upright and in a better position to finish the pull. Not happy at all as I have been hammering deadlift and pulling 230 in the gym from this height as well!
Event 3: 320kg Yoke
I had to pick up the yoke fully loaded to set the height of it before my run and knew it would be tough at that point. Kept standing up with it and for some reason my feet felt glued down. It was a tad too heavy for me this. 0 metres (around 10 pickups though lol)
Event 4: 140kg Farmers
Last time I did farmers was a long time ago, and about 100kg so I excelled my predictions in this. I picked up the farmers and walked about5 tiny steps and left hand grip went. Too f**ked to pick them up again.
Event 5: 53kg Circus Dumbbell
Got the damn thing overhead about 6 times, maybe more, but actually locking it out all the way didn't happen. Awkward size and shape made it difficult for everyone and i think the first 4 competitors no repped on this, me included.
All round was a good day, its a fantastic setup that those guys have there. Well run comp and some crazy lifting as well! Well done to the guy who trains in the gym up here where I train, Chris, 2nd place in your first comp and you made every event look fairly easy too! Ben - good work mate, 8 reps on the 53kg dumbbell was crazy! Thanks to the organisers, spotters and loaders and crowd, thanks for the lift there and back Ben!
Was a decent start to this year for me to prepare for the under 90s, but that is 4 weeks away and my shoulder for today at least is a no lift shoulder - raising my arm overhead or out to the side requires elbow rotation as it tightens up around the tricep, front/lateral delt area and bicep under my armpit, so I am guessing the delt discomfort is the bicep attachment point rather than delts. Learned a good bit on the day, was great to put more faces to names, fet tips off the more experienced guys and watch some really impressive lifting, cant remember names so wont mention individuals cos I will miss people out!
So I got a war wound, a medal and got steamed round town afterwards - a good day all round, bring on the u90s!

All in all a good day, didn't feel up for it until half way through though, but main thing is getting the volume in. Done long hours this week though, so that may have impacted on recovery a little. Up by 5kg on sldl next week, and stick to the 8 reps on squats and pressing too for the time being, I need to break the 250kg barrier on deadlifts if it kills me!

Very nice squatting! Especially when tired. A lot of good sessions in here over the last wee while. Looks like you're working hard!

Cheers mate, I was worried before how I would manage as I tweaked my achilles in the morning pushing my old banger onto the scrapper's wagon...saw some swelling and everythign, but didn't feel anything during squats and it had miraculously healed by morning! I'm enjoying the higher rep squat sets at the moment, hopefully it will give my body enough recovery time so my deadlift finally starts moving again...

4 or 6 x 18m with 90kg EDIT: A couple of drops on first couple of runs but ok by 3rd run once I sorted my grip out
2 x 18m with 100kg One drop first run no drops 2nd run
Big, long, awkward farmers implementsmade this tougher than it should have been really but still fun...
Frame drag
4 x 18m with frame plus 80kg (about 110-120kg in total) done for foot speed
Small tyre flip
2 flips, tyre was full of water and a bit too small really to do much on
Keg Loading
4 x 110kg keg onto a large and a small keg stacked up - roughly 42"
Tired today, feeling it at the end of a tough week, enjoyed it though today!
