I know people do this for speed and s**t. But can someone actually say: -yes, i've done it and it worked, my speed increased-

Last time i tryed this i ended up wasting my time... 3 reps for 10 sets with %50 of 1RM... obviously the bar moved fast but %50 aint %90... how the hell can i carry over speed from so far appart percentages?

I have no idea how this works. I don't ever dedicate a session to speed work, I justdo all my warm up sets as fast as possible. If I just did speed work I'd feel like I'd just warmed up then gone home.

I do this too

make all my warm ups as speedy as possible.
I don't do a day of for example 10 singles at 50% or anything

I've just started doing them at about 60% for 8 sets of 3. It's boring as f**k and I dont feel particularly like I have done much of anything. I do however like the fact that it gets me pulling twice per week though and allows me to focus on form and set up so I'm going to give them a little while longer before writing them off.

I've tried speed benching and my bar speed did increase. Now I do speed benching when I feel my bar speed slowing down.

I have followed a speed type system performing 9x3@70% (misread the advice should have been using 60%) every other day with a heavy day every 5th session.

I have to say that my bench strength & technique improved dramatically but is was a very hard programme to recover from and I ultimatly ended up with a torn pec.

When i return to lifting i doubt i will use the system again (!) but will be lifting explosively with whatever weight or percentage I am using.

On another note I found box squatting explosively (with 75%+) was really beneficial for strength.

yeah lol, that seems to be the best answer, but belive it or not, it's hard to forget to speed the bar and just think in lifting it.

agree with most on here, never done it just go through warm up sets with speed but control.

only time i do incorporate speed is on yoke runs with light weights

If I'm not mistaken I think Andy Bolton does a lot of speed work. Probably does the majority of work less then 70% of his top weight and focus a lot on speed.

Isn't speed work only useful for equipped lifters?

i have spoken to andy about this when he came to my gym and since then all my training is based around it my deadlift especialy i havnt pulled a a 1rm off floor in a a while but since i have done my speed work i do singles in power rack using green bands from about 4 pins down from 6ft rack this mean bands are slack at lockout my first time trying this i pulled 240 i went back did speed for 2 weeks did bands again got 260 done another 2 weeks speed work and pulled 280

i am not saying these are new deadlift pbs but on the setup i am using i have made improvments

for my speed work i do 10 sets of 3 re setting each rep and i work upto 160-180

its all about creating fast twitch muscle fibres
