A very light and easy speed session today ...

Speed Bench Press
8 x 3 90 kgs

Pull Ups 3 x 10
Dips 3 x 10

Not much else to say really, just a light session before the weekend when I'll try alot heavier lifts, gonna be fun!

Right so today was the day for testing Squat and Deadlift max, things played out in an odd way ...

Squats
2 x 10 20 kgs
1 x 5 60 kgs
1 x 5 80 kgs
1 x 3 100 kgs
1 x 2 120 kgs
1 x 1 140 kgs
1 x 1 165 kgs
1 x 1 182.5 kgs - technique felt a bit off, but went up fine.
1 x 1 190 kgs - this felt really easy and went up fast, video below.
2 x 0 200 kgs - this was where the fun began haha!

As you can see from the above the 190 went up fast and easy so I jumped to 200, first attmept at 200 I completely messed up my technique and the bar rolled up on my neck causing me to tip forward and generally bugger things up lol. The second attmept was even more hilarious, I got set up better but stupidly sank the squat far too deep, literally ass to grass! Needless to say at my level of squatting ability there was no way I was getting 200 kgs back up from that depth, annoyingly I hurt my ribs on my left hand side quite badly with this stupidity and bailed out the front in a comedy fashion leaving the spotters holding the bar! (Sorry guys Grin ). Here's a vid of it, makes me chuckle every time I see it ...

So I think 195 is there for sure, perhaps 200 with another pop at it using better technique who knows. Unfortunately injuring my rib meant deadlifting was painful and I ended up stopping after grimacing my way through my last warm up. I did the following ...

Deadlift
1 x 5 70 kgs
1 x 3 120 kgs
1 x 1 160 kgs
1 x 1 180 kgs
1 x 1 210 kgs - belt on here and this is when rib started hurting alot.
1 x 1 230 kgs - my last planned warm up before a PB attempt, but pain in rib too much had to stop to avoid further injury.

A mixed bag overall, but I'm obviously alot stronger squatter for my efforts, hopefully if my rib injury isn't too bad I shall have a pop at 195 and perhaps 200 again soon! I'm disappointed that I wasn't able to test how much my improved leg strength would help my deadlift, but again if the rib injury isn't too serious I might have the opportunity to test my deadlift again soon, here's hoping Grin

Well done on the 190 PB squat... 2 PB's on the squat in a day is a big ask, so dont worry about it.

Im sure your rib will be fine, probably just where your belt has pushed against it on your super deep 200 !

Good effort today supersteel your 190kg was quality, I'd deffo reckon on 195kg being there, 200kg was a big ask however a 15kg gain in 3 weeks is huge, so Smolov was defo worth the hard work, I would just do some low volume stuff for a couple of weeks to taper down and if rib alright, continue based on the new max.

Nice videos, featuring Shtevie! the first 200kg we had it but Simon missed the hook on the racks...dogh! then when you went super deep you bailed out and I helf it in a deadlift grip and put it down which was easier. I think the rib thing was caused by going ultra deep and the belt digging right in it'll go in a few days though...I've had it before a few years ago. You are looking good to have a go with 200kg for the unequipped, that would make things really interesting between you and Bryan, think he'd betta watch out!!!

Cheers Jake, yeah I recon your right, should hopefully be nothing major, will just avoid deadlifting etc for a wee while and let it heal.

Cheers Ross and thanks for the good spotting and saving my ass from getting crushed lol! Yeah definately going to have a pop at something big at the unequipped all being well, should be a good battle between Bryan and myself, but he is a superb squatter and I think he'll improve alot by then too!
