crushed the generals chance of 6th place Member 588, 5477 posts SQ 200, BP 100, DL 200500.0 kgs @ 84kgs UnEq | Been training seriously since january. Enjoying making strength gains and powerlifting. Do you guys think I'm limiting myself by not using a belt and wraps and stuff when training?

I personally prefer the stiffest possible. Member 158, 3110 posts SQ 170, BP 107.5, DL 222.5500.0 kgs @ 67.4kgs UnEq | not limiting yourself but a belt helps with stability and is also for safety when going heavy.

crushed the generals chance of 6th place Member 588, 5477 posts SQ 200, BP 100, DL 200500.0 kgs @ 84kgs UnEq | Okay. I see in some logs people work up to like say 85% of 1RM and then say like (belt on) etc. do you think I should do this for my heaviest lifts ie. 90%+ or just keep training with nothing? I'm not sure to be honest. There arent any power lifters at my gym who I can absorb information from so its kinda hard to tell. If stuff like that will keep me injury free or atleast help keep me injury free then it cant be bad.

Gone and easily forgotten....... Member 331, 22298 posts SQ 185, BP 100, DL 230515.0 kgs @ 85kgs UnEq | My 2 cents. I will be using a belt on all the events on my strongman comp on saturday simple because that sort of weight is so much more than what I handle in training, and is a lot more than me, it makes sense. However, I don't in training. But something like a 250kg yoke walk I just collapse under that sort of weight, but I wouldn't wear a belt for my squats.

Hey mate, my name is Paul Dudley Member 632, 3628 posts SQ 200, BP 155, DL 282.5637.5 kgs @ 77kgs UnEq | I tend to use a belt on my heavy (above 85% 1RM as you say) squats and overhead pressing, but thats about it. I sometimes deadlift in a belt, but i personally don't feel any benifits to this and even think it hinders me slightly (as i say though, thats just me, it could be completely different for you). What i'm getting at here is that i think you should experiment, see where you think a belt is going to be of use to you, but certainly don't rely on 1 24/7 (don't be the guy that does barbell curls wearing a belt...). Focus on working the core (thats the main thing), but if you feel a belt gives you a physical or even mental (as is the case for me more so than physical i beleive) edge, then by all means use one. Sports an extremely muscular arse. Member 38, 6253 posts | Thing said: i would say build up you core strength first and dont go heavy to quickly. This. Build up your core first, add belts in later when there is a need for them (i.e. for competition only)

better at shagging than his big brother Member 392, 162 posts SQ 325, BP 170, DL 275770.0 kgs @ 90kgs Eq | I tend to add a belt at 60% upwards on squats and wraps at about 80%....however lately i have been nursing a knee problem so wraps on sooner.

But in my good suit (IPF), I wrap from the same point but never bother with the belt

Nothing left in the tank. Member 5, 25581 posts Administrator | I havnt used a belt since i was powerlifting last , i believe if your core is strong enough ,you wont ever need one (lol, but having said that , i hurt my back a bit doing 200kg at christmas beltless !! dufusboar) ergo i will probably use one if i go into any comps and knee wraps are a great accessory to squatting
