Been training seriously since january. Enjoying making strength gains and powerlifting.

Do you guys think I'm limiting myself by not using a belt and wraps and stuff when training?

not limiting yourself but a belt helps with stability and is also for safety when going heavy.

Okay. I see in some logs people work up to like say 85% of 1RM and then say like (belt on) etc. do you think I should do this for my heaviest lifts ie. 90%+ or just keep training with nothing?

I'm not sure to be honest. There arent any power lifters at my gym who I can absorb information from so its kinda hard to tell. If stuff like that will keep me injury free or atleast help keep me injury free then it cant be bad.

i would say build up you core strength first and dont go heavy to quickly. look at the likes of cleggy wigan little_a and boar. they dont use belts as they have trained the core to be strong through there training.

may be something to think about

this is true! but what i'm trying to get at is it would be better to develop you natural belt than rushing ahead and using a belt on every set..

My 2 cents.
I will be using a belt on all the events on my strongman comp on saturday simple because that sort of weight is so much more than what I handle in training, and is a lot more than me, it makes sense.
However, I don't in training.

But something like a 250kg yoke walk I just collapse under that sort of weight, but I wouldn't wear a belt for my squats.

I tend to use a belt on my heavy (above 85% 1RM as you say) squats and overhead pressing, but thats about it. I sometimes deadlift in a belt, but i personally don't feel any benifits to this and even think it hinders me slightly (as i say though, thats just me, it could be completely different for you). What i'm getting at here is that i think you should experiment, see where you think a belt is going to be of use to you, but certainly don't rely on 1 24/7 (don't be the guy that does barbell curls wearing a belt...). Focus on working the core (thats the main thing), but if you feel a belt gives you a physical or even mental (as is the case for me more so than physical i beleive) edge, then by all means use one.

This.

Build up your core first, add belts in later when there is a need for them (i.e. for competition only)

I tend to add a belt at 60% upwards on squats and wraps at about 80%....however lately i have been nursing a knee problem so wraps on sooner.

Hmmmm, in a leotard or similar I use a belt and wraps from the low 200s. But in my good suit (IPF), I wrap from the same point but never bother with the belt

I havnt used a belt since i was powerlifting last , i believe if your core is strong enough ,you wont ever need one

(lol, but having said that , i hurt my back a bit doing 200kg at christmas beltless !! dufusboar)

ergo i will probably use one if i go into any comps

and knee wraps are a great accessory to squatting
