Paused Squats

Who does them? Do you see any benefit from them? Do you solely do paused squats or work it in with normal squats?

Just looking for some ideas for my training and i am having great results from pausing other lifts (bench & strict press)

I do paused squats against bands every other week

Started yesterday. Reps of 3, worked up to 140kg. Easy enough, Will just up it five kg every workout until I can only get doubles and singles etc.

If I squatted once a week, I wouldn't bother with them.
If I squatted twice a week, I wouldn't bother with them.
If I squatted three times a week....I probably still wouldn't bother with them.

Anyway, at some point beyond those first 3 sessions, I ran out of things to do and started pausing some squats. I like it. I treat it a bit like...

"Well I'm not so confident about a new 3 rep PB on normal squats, but I guess I can up my paused 3 rep PB..."

And so it keeps me doing something productive.

I've done a bit of paused squatting recently and they teach great position out of the hole and confidence to squat deeper - sadly not many people care about that

Started them recently as an assistance to my squats and will vary between them and fronts etc. bit early to say if they make any difference but felt good doing them.

I bet there's been a big uptake in paused squats since Tom Martin and the Cleggsters (great name for a band) started posting vids of them.

I first did them about 18-months ago then didn't do them again until last week. I really like them as they seem incorporate different muscles than when I just bounce out of the hole. I obviously don't like them that much though or I'd have done them more often! Roll-Eyes

Pretty much the only squats I do now beltless paused squats every other day
Then 2 weeks out stick the belt on and start to dip in and out rather that pause

I do believe you only started doing them once the aforementioned people starting posting their videos!! Tongue

Cheers for the replys guys. Milsy thats similar to what I was thinking...do a block of paused work, bouncing out of the hole was giving me some hip problems...

I like them. They let me squat more often whilst forcing the weight down so I don't fall apart

plus my position is better. I'm hoping to learn how to not pause a pause squat

Good assistance lift. Like it as an adjunct to core straight work. Either as a stand alone session or as,part of some down work.

I've been doing them for 3 or 4 years. I like doing them after another squat, normally for triples or 5s as a supplementary movement after squats or deadlifts. Paused a single with 180kg before, more by accident than anything and that's the problem with doing too many of them -you start pausing your normal squats. Did a couple of sets of 10 today after power squats for 8s and high bar squats for 6's. I thought I was going to die.

1 word of caution -make sure your stance is solid with your knee over your ankle. I've given myself ankle issues in the past doing them with too narrow a stance. Since I moved my stance out a bit I seem to be doing better with them.

I do them. Ed Coan did them and advises them as assistance. I like them.
