Jc type one diabetes as you know has an entirely different mechanism and thus has different complications. Due to it being a complete deficiency and reliant entirely on exogenous insulin, if you control your injections and eat normally you shouldn't develop any eye problems as you won't necessarily have any insulin resistance. So high blood glucose shouldn't be an issue which is mostly the cause of diabetic complications (eyes, heart, kidneys, nerves etc.)

I'm starting to, i used to play rugby and even though fat was quite fit. Now i do no cardio at all, i'm so bad i went for a long walk with the dogs the other day and on the way home hit a bank that i used to run up easily and was blowing out my arse just walking up it. Not good fat and unfit now Unhappy

kirkynick said:Without trying to be a morbid bas***d I shall repeat the list i posted on Brownbears' journal of powerlifters that have died relatively young:

"But i can name quite a few powerlifters who have died relatively young, but most were SHW. Here are just a few from memory:-

- Doyle Kennady, 1978, 1980 IPF SHW World Champ died in his 50s (I think)
- Lee Moran, 1984 IPF SHW World Champ died in his 40s
- Cees de Vreugd who won the 1985 IPF SHW World Champs (before being banned for doping) died at 47.
- OD Wilson 1988 IPF SHW World Champ died at 37
- Steve Zetolofsky - British SHW champ died in his 40s I think.
- Jon Pall Sigmarrson - WSM winner and Nordic powerlifting champion died at 33ish
- Anthony Clark - SHW powerlifter, 800 lb bench presser died at 38
- Nick Winters - SHW bencher, 650 lbs bench died at 29
- Matt Dimmel - SHW powerlifter, Westside lifter died at 33"

I remember reading that a study of ex Olympic athletes found that weightlifters were something like the second longest lived, but had the highest rate of death by violent causes.

I already have the early stages of diabetic retinopathy off a regular an hba1c of 7ish

Blood sugar control for type I is not as easy as some I have seen in the medical profession seem to think

Either way, not something I stress about, it is what it is....Wink

I wouldn't say I worry, but I've been thinking about it a lot recently.
