Wednesday 4th June, Adlington

No training, just popped down for a chat and to help out any of the guys who needed it. Andy rack pulled like a rampaging motherf**ker, and Big Phil raw benched very nicely. Alan told Pete, Little Ste and me what we're lifting Sunday too Happy.

And I broke a ladder that held Behemoth Phil.

Lancashire and Cheshire Championships

Sunday 8th June, Intershape, Colne

Four superheavies today in my first equipped meet; just looking for 9/9 and an ok total really, none of them are beatable unless they bomb. All my squats and bench attempts are for comp PBs.

Squat in the Z-suit
warmups:
20x10
60x5; straps up:
100x3; belt and wraps:
140x1
160x1 all seems to be in order
Attempts:
180 easy, strong
200 not quite so good, foot spacing off I think
207.5 a bit better but not right

Barry tells me I an not leading with my shoulders enough, and the missing piece that's been bothering me all day falls into place. Hey ho.

Bench
warmups:
20x20
20x10
65x6
105x3
120x1
130x1
Titan Fury 56 on:
150x1
Attempts:
160 took it out wrong and had to put it back, fine after that
170 first red light and lucky not to get more, an ugly lift that I nearly let stall
175 (equal gym pb) like an empty bar, finally got everything to fire in the right place Happy.

Sub-total: 382.5

Deadlift in Z-suit
warmups:
70x3+3 Alan comes over and stops me rolling the bar, so I'm now going down Tony-style, one arm, breathe, other arm, fire
120x3 it is better, no doubt
160x1 good
180x1 yup
Attempts:
200 EASY
210 EASY
220 fail idiotically I didn't look down at my left hand when I placed it. Put it in the wrong place, pulled off centre, bar tilted and ripped my grip open on the left. Incredibly frustrating mental mistake, as it was going up fast and easy and would have been 600.

Total: 207.5/175/210 = 592.5 PB (1306 lbs, through THAT milestone). 3rd in SHW, 7th highest total overall.

I'll be happy when I stop being cross about that last pull.

Some very good lifting from others, though I saw almost none of it. Barry congratulated me, which makes me very happy. Alan rightly bollocked me for the last DL, but I know he's happy with the rest of my day.

Well done Rick. A good solid first equipped outing, but you know there's plenty more to come. On your second bench, it looked like you were at your absolute limit. On the third one, looked like there was another 20 kilos there! Get the line right, go a size smaller, and you'll be hitting 200 next time. Do that, look at the bar when you take your deadlift grip(!) and learn the squat suit more and you'll be pushing 650 next time.
