Was aiming for a double but a stumble on the walkout and I lost tension in the hole which made this one harder. Not bad considering I’ve done this build up with a niggle in my adductor which still doesn’t feel right

Cheers bud. It’s been an up and down cycle and I can’t wait to get this comp over with and start building again to be honest

Training finished now for comp this weekend. Competing at the GPC Scottish Championships in Glasgow. This cycle has been less than ideal but i’ll do my best and see where it gets me.

Best lifts this cycle have been

Squat 275kg x 1 after adductor strain
250kg x 6 before

Bench 170kg x 2 & 155kg x 4

Deadlift 282.5kg x 2 after adductor strain

So for this comp I decided not to cut any weight at all and weighed in at 105.3kg. Squat and deadlift training hadn’t gone to plan due to 2 adductor strains in the training cycle but bench had gone well. To be honest I wasn’t looking forward to the comp and just wanted to get it over with so I could start a new training cycle.

Squat

Warmed up to 260kg in wraps. The 260 wasn’t the best I’ve done but I was rushed as my flight had started while I was doing the last warm up. So I put my opener down to 260kg to play it safe.

Squat 1 - 260kg. No lift due to depth. Weight felt nice and easy
2 - 270kg - no lift, depth again. Was told I need another inch. Annoying as it felt easy again
3 - 270kg - good lift. I’m pretty sure I was good for at least 290kg so I was pretty disappointed.

Bench

Warmed up to 160kg paused and it felt great.

1 - 170kg - good lift. Nice and easy.
2 - 175kg - good lift. Comp pb. Buzzing with this. This is the weight I trained for and had failed twice before in comp.
3 - 180kg - no lift. Not far away at all. Had I gone straight to 180 from 170 I might have had it but never mind. I got what I came for.

Deadlift

Warmed up to 260kg in 20 minutes. Way too rushed after bench.

1 - 270kg - good lift. No problem
2 - 282.5kg - good lift. Felt solid. Problem is my callus tore off again for the second comp in a row. It seems to be a new problem.
3 - 295kg - no lift. Couldn’t pull the bar hard enough with the torn callus. It’s a shame as it would have given me a pb total, albeit a 2.5kg one.

So I finished with a 727.5kg total which I was a bit disappointed with. On my day I could be very close to 770. I’m not sure what my next comp will be yet but it will be a minimum of 7 months if I do the British. If not next year. I’m not competing agains until I’m guaranteed a big pb.

I’m excited to get training again though and getting stronger. Will probably have this week as rest and start up again next week.

I finally made my return to the gym tonight. I only had 8 days off but that’s probably the longest I’ve had off in about 3 and a half years. I was supposed to be making my return on Thursday, and then Friday, and then Saturday, and then Sunday lol but I’ve got in and got going again today. I’ve done nothing even worth mentioning really but I’ve had such a lack of motivation this week I’m happy just to get back in and get the ball rolling. I usually don’t even take 2 days off after a comp so 8 days felt like an eternity.

I’ve also gone from 108kg/17stone to 102.6kg/16stone in those 8 days as I only ate about 60% of the calories I was doing beforehand. Impressive loss ey?

Anyway...
