With it being Saturday, and me being bored, I have decided to produce another pointless thread.

This time, it is to reassure me of my insecurities about being a novice lifter in my early 30's and the potential to become much much stronger at my advancing years. (f**king queer!) Grin

So, for those late starters, what age did you start lifting and what progress have you seen since you began?

Do you think it is possible for a late starter in his 30's to see enough progress in his numbers to be seriously competitive in major competitions?

That's it really. Confused

For those annoyed by another pointless thread, I could pretend I'm arsed. I'm not. My advice to you is to s**t in your hands and clap.
Happy

God I'm bored....Tongue

36 when I started , progress has been slow and limited by continual injury , usually caused by my own stupidity chasing numbers instead of concentrating on form and technique. Hoping to remedy this this year.

If your sensible i dont see any reason you cant get stronger through your 40's as long as your realistic and take things slowly.

Though a post to read on a thread I started does alleviate some boredom. For that, I thank you.

I'd never been in a gym before i turned 33, started strongman training about a year ago when i was 35, but not able to train all the time as i've had a knee op and op's on both hands in the last year.

30 starting strongman , though trained sporadically for many years prior , I did wonder before I started if it was a bit late to make a real go of it , but when you look at the likes of Mark felix and Mark westaby theres no reason why someone starting in their 30s ( or 40s in Westabys case) cant do well in strength sports , I remember someone on here posting a couple of years back that no matter what age you start , you have around a 10 - 15 year window before super heavy lifting takes a toll on your joints , not sure how true this is but it does kind of make sense Happy

Chaos, are you really 35?!

And I can only assume from those numbers you had a pretty significant base of training you would at the time have considered 'serious' already?

I mean, this is a bit like anything else, perception comes into it a lot. I have many mates and acquaintances who would say they lift VERY seriously yet never do squats, deads, any standing pressing or leg work!!

Are you being a bit of a lifting snob my man? Confused

I've never lifted for a competitive reason until very recently. I'm 33, first competition is soon so I'd say I've only been training seriously for a month!
