So you've gone from squatting 220x4 to failing a 220 single after getting back from holiday??

I hope you get things together for 2 weeks time mate! How's the weight?

It was really strange, I controlled the descent fine, but out the hole I just had no power at all. Between walking significantly more than we're used to for 5 days straight, no creatine, and not practising my glute activation stuff for a week it probably wasn't the best day to hit a heavy single!

I'm going to lower my opener anyways, assuming my hip sorts itself out in due course, otherwise I may pull out of lifting, or potentially just put in a token squat seeing as I'll be there anyway to support and hotels already booked.

Weight is circa 96kg over the past week, but I've made no effort with my intake beyond keeping it at or under maintenance last week. Bit more time for food prep and planning when eating out this week, so I think I should start comp week at around 95.5kg. I know I can make weight from 96kg so there's not too much to worry about on that end.

I hope so. Hip is still not good today.

Sweet. YNE squat record is around 232 I believe? Thought you might be pushing that this comp... There's around 700 '93 lifters at the classic it seems, I really don't know what any of them are lifting

Yeah I wanted a crack at it, will see how I'm squatting after physio on Monday. Managed all right today but the pain is still there and I'm not sure how it'll effect top end strength. Still looking for bench and dead PB's either way, and I'm down to 95.5kg now so water cut should go fine.
Five Towns have got a few strong lads in the 93's, don't think I'll be getting a podium place this time. About time I cut down to 83!

Just looked at these measurements from Jan 2014

I said:
Weight this morning 14stone 13 3/4lb, 95.14kg

Neck - 16"
Chest at nip level - 44"
Powerbelly at navel - 42"
Waist/Hips where trousers go - 37" (so why do I fit in 34" waist trousers? Boggling)
Bicep (right) - 15"
Forearm (right) - 12"
Upper thigh (right) - 25"
Calf (right) - 17"

Skinfold Caliper test at illiac crest only - 30-31mm/26% bodyfat

Current measurements;

Weight is at 95.7kg
Chest - 46"
Stomach - 40.5"
Hips - 36.8"
Biceps (right) - 15.5"
Forearm (right) - 12.5"
Upper thigh (right) - 25"
Calf (right) - 17"

Bodyfat using caliper at illiac crest is 22mm//22.3% bodyfat.

Thought I'd put some upper body mass on, these measurements seem to corroborate it. Don't think the caliper measurement is terribly accurate.

Went to physio today, turns out my piriformis is hyper-tonic and that's pulling my hip out of whack, ausing a bit of impingement through a certain portion of the squat ROM. If I keep on top of this, should be good to go no bother. Working up to a heavyish single on weds, so will see how that goes.

After physio I went to gym to run Alex through commands and get by bench opener tied down. Much more consistent with my leg drive and tightness today. Hit 110 for 3 singles then a 5 second pause at 100kg. Then I did some upper back work and some flys and curls for da pump.

Well, it didn't go fully to plan but I didn't bomb and I hit a couple PB's, and had a great weekend.

Squat
Opener: 210kg
Second: 215kg (failed)
Third: Passed

Opener hurt, and was 90% right leg to protect left hip or something. Pulled right groin. 215kg had no hope out of the hole.

Bench Press
Opener: 110kg
Second: 120kg
Third: 125kg (failed)

Opener flew, second was pretty fast, third barely left my chest. It's at least a 5kg comp PB though, and pain free. Very happy with bench and there's a lot more work to be done and progress to be found there.

Deadlift
Opener: 220kg
Second: 242.5kg
Third: 250kg (failed)

Opener flew, second was very hard but still quite fast, third hardly moved.

Finished with a 572.5kg total, a 5kg comp PB. Took first place in the 93kg seniors in the absence of stronger competition, but a win is a win.

Continuing with DUP, adding in Sumo on tuesdays and RDL's after main deadlift on Fri's, for more hammie (RDL) and glute/hip (sumo) work. Going to add in a bit of stability work for bench via CGBP with band suspended plates, keep my shoulders more stable, and also wide grip bench for pec/cheater ROM development. Squat can stay the same, though the focus will be on getting my hip healthy first before pushing it.
For squat and deads I'm going to try and hit heavier singles more frequently to practice maintaining position under heavy load, which is something I struggled with today having focussed on reps and volume in the run up to comp. Having done this on bench it seems to have worked well.

Good show today sir. I keep saying that one day you will hit a comp entirely without injury and on that day you will do some real damage.

Thanks for coming mate. You really put a shift in both days and it's very appreciated.

I might have to put that to bed for a while until I start pulling my third deadlift attempts successfully!
