Thanks pal, your deads and axle were brilliant on Sunday! Any comps lined up for yourself? My plan is to do the Dumfries Novice again in November then try the Scottish qualifier again and try to move up to open comps next year, the more experience the better!

Fluff and puff session tonight get some blood flowing and try to subside aches and pains from the weekend. Flys were a nice change, the more I did the better my shoulder felt. Chins were solid and rows were just for blood flow

I don't think this is the quickest way to become an open competitor

You know you need a 120 log and a 280 dead as a minimum. You don't need more comp experience you need those lifts, concentrate on those.

Also, you train at a gym with most of the strongest guys in Scotland, and one of the best most helpful coaches (irishmarc), talk to them about getting your lifts up, and ditch this westside bulls**t Happy

Cheers. Will probably try to do a powerlifting comp before the end of the year. I might do the qualifier again next year too depending on dates/work . Good luck with your training and comps.

I agree with more comp experience but don't do a comp because its there.

Couldn't disagree more with ditch the westside Wink
it has made my squatting and dead lift go up massively this past year.

For what it's worth I agree about Westside not being great for strongman as traditional Westside stuff is far too geared towards singles. If you like all the Westside stuff why not try something like Dave Whitingtons forced entry method which is a modified version of the cube method that uses some Westside principles but has far more rep work and I think is better suited to strongman.

ditch west side IMO and other may agree of disagree its shote for Strongman.
i have found that 5/3/1 works well for Deadlift, squats, bench and OH press. but its slow continued progress which i think i better.

Not sure if the 120 log, and 280deadlift rule is still in operation atthe scottish, but you should be at that level anyway when trying a National qualifier.

as martin has said utilise the experience around you to help you find a plan that works for you so that you can improve.

Thanks Steven,

Martin - there is no minimum lift for the qualifier now, I know what you mean tho about pull and press needing to get stronger. Danny has had loads of success with this template and some will be from training with Cherry but at the same time his lifts have rocketed.

Neil - ill have a look at his FEM program, the template I'm doing now iv tried to go up to something heavy and then have a back off set with more reps. Everything is worth a try tho! Cherry Westide

Neil - loads of experience back home and in Edinburgh, I really need to get some consistent event training (log inparticular) working weekends gets in the way
