I got 9 with 47.5 on my first ever week of 5/3/1, stick with it and you'll see good progress. The key to 5/3/1 is sticking to it and not changing things too much.

Nice work. The 160 deads looked really easy for you, looks like your heading towards 200 pretty fast.

Good result today, bench press seems to be improving. Surprised I got through all the sets of db bench but I do take pretty long breaks between each set. I ripped a callus off my left hand during deadlifts the other day and it's still really painful so I didn't go as heavy on rows this week, I just did some sets with set reps rather than going for max reps on the last set.

Really? You really believe £25 is a lot to pay to get tips from one of the best lifters around? If you want your lifts to improve you have to go learn from the best when possible, tips and videos on the internet are great, but I can assure you it's not the same at all.

Cheers matey. I'm happy with how things are going now, seem to be getting better all the time since I started doing mobility work and warming up properly.

Happy with today. Still working on my form, and I'm still doing them beltless and making sure I take time to set up between each rep on the heavy set, last thing I need is a back injury like I used to get all the time when I rushed through them. I'll probably do a mini session tonight if I feel upto it.

Guess it must be a different problem to what I had then, I'm a convert to close grip now, doubt I'll go back unless I enter a comp that needs me to bench.

I thought the advice PaulD gave was spot on. I wouldn't bother using the boards for board presses just yet. But you could use them for triceps death if you have a training partner, it seemed to help my bench last year when my 1RM was around 100.

Have you considered switching over to close grip bench to give your shoulder a break? My shoulder was a mess and I couldn't do regular bench but close grip was ok, even now that my shoulder is fully heeled I still carry on with close grip as I realise how much easier it must be on my shoulders.

Cheers matey. It's a Honda SS50. It's my folks and the refuse to get rid of it, it's not run in over 20 years but they insist it will run again one day. It's from before the restriction laws so it does about 60mph when running right, crazy bikes they were.

Good look with surgery. Would love to come and train with you guys again once you're back on your feet. I still say I owe were I am now to you giving me the confidence that what I was doing was on the right track. I took a full month off after my rugby season and I soon got back what I lost, I'm sure you'll do it even quicker.

Military Press
1 x 5 @ 30kg
1 x 5 @ 35kg
1 x 3 @ 42.5kg
---------------
1 x 5 @ 52.5kg
1 x 3 @ 60kg
1 x 7 @ 67.5kg

Dips
5 x 8 @ 40kg

Chin Ups
5 x 10 @ 10kg

Video from today:

Good session today. This is the first time I've ever done a video of me doing military press, quite shocked to see how far back I lean at times. I'm still getting used to doing my last set with each rep touching the chest and trying to remember to get my head through, it's getting there slowly. Dips are still going up which I'm very happy with. I suck at chins and maybe I always will.

Bench Press
8 x 3 @ 60kg

Triceps Death
1 x 5/5/5/5/2 @ 80kg
1 x 5/5/5/2/0 @ 80kg

Fat Bar Clean & Press
5 x 1 @ 60kg
5 x 1 @ 70kg
5 x 1 @ 75kg

Extra session as my mate came round and wanted to train. Not sure why I was so bad at triceps death today, maybe it was because of the 8 sets of speed bench with minimal rest between sets, I'm not too sure. Getting used to the continental clean took some time, first time I tried 70 I failed, and I had a few failed attempts inbetween the good ones at 75kg. I think this is something I'll start doing more often.

Good luck to all of you. Hopefully by next year I'll be in a place to make it worth while entering.
