I was stood with boar/fat pete everyone else, I've got no respectable achievements so I'm just your everyday garden BBer type trainer but have always had an interest in power/strongman stuff, I don't have what it takes to compete but I would like to increase my lifts a bit... to be perfectly honest I want to focus massivly on the deadlift. OK... where I need help DEADLIFTS, really doing my head in at the moment. Didn't train deads until late last year, progress was fairly swift, 180kg was my best 1RM but I hadn't tried for singles that was my 1st go. In Oct I torn my hamstring and had a lot of time off opening a shop in clayton (Manchester)... been back at he gym, trainings going well in all other areas but deadlifts it getting to me, I've got a huge urge to get to 200kg. But even tho 180kg went up easy enough before the ham tear so weeks I can not get it off the ground and it leaves me mentally feeling deflated. Got some advice on other forums... reduce reps, increasing singles but still faling short. Should I forget the single 1rm for a couple of weeks and start repping again? If so... what should I rep for my worksets? thanks in adviance my advice is mate do forget the 1 rep wonders. yiour gonna be stuck for a long time. dedicate time to reps 5 -6 reps with a weigth you can do. also vary your heights eg above the knee, just below the knee, standing on a platform. lose the wraps i would think you got some pycological thing due to hamstring been torn which is understandable. just take your time and with training you learn as you go on mate. also...................use drugs hahahah hey mate...saw you in ashton, congrats on the comp... very funny replying to the supporters in the crowd ^^^ whats this about straps, I didn't even mention them!!! LOL I do use wrist wraps on my forwarms for curling because of some tendon pain... but not back day, I think ppl might of got 2 threads confused in the steelfixing the mayhem. Anyway.... was back day today... 180kg actually went up!!! Wooooooooo, so I'm back where I was before ham tear, but yes it's still a mental thing as well. My legs certainly wobble under me a lot more, could be nerves so mental or it could be still not being 100%, not sure but I'm sure it will pass. I put a 5kg on either side hoping for the 190kg but my eyes were bigger than my belly it didn't move. Will go back to reps for a bit... 140-150kg for reps would that be about right for a 200kg target? Thanks for the lifting from diff heights idead... will throw some of that in as well. thanks for the replies everyone.

John: I think i'm one of the weakest person who has entered this gym in Adlington and really it's a lot like Matt said, it's been über great, cant wait to get back there! The more experienced the lifter, the less arrogant. These guys will sort you out in no time, encourage you, and give you some banter if needed. Dogs bo***cks!

in the RAF not black sabbath Member 595, 516 posts SQ 170, BP 132.5, DL 230532.5 kgs @ 93kgs UnEq | hey john, i train with an american strong man in cyprus on sundays (how confusing is that for my little brain), he has a squat rack/frame and stading inside the frame with the bar resting on the bottom most setting of the frame, we put heavy duty weight lifting bands around the frame and bar, stood on a wooden box so it was the same height as if lifting of the floor and did this. Obviously if you have 140 at the bottom depending on what band you use it could be 180-200 or more at the top, taught me how to get it up quicker ... so to speak lol i am there tomorrow and we are dead lifting ill get a picture of exactly what i mean for you. Also you could attach a heafty chain on each end of the bar, therefore same principle, light at bottom heavy at top. it worked well for me (ok my dead lift aint great but its a darn site better than the 110 i was doin in january) and turbokid really dude, scaffolder? you should join the army we need people like to sweep the floors
