tabbouleh and fattoush salads were very refreshing Member 267, 8548 posts SQ 220, BP 165, DL 250635.0 kgs @ 90kgs Eq | this is f'ing hilarious. hahaha I think (and I'm hoping! lol) what turbokid is trying to say is that manual labourers eg scaffolders etc develop strong hands and backs from the sort of work they do (GPP if you like!) so that when they do have a go at deadlifting it may come more naturally to them. Turbokid, please tell me this is true!!

no longer sugdens strongest man Member 455, 1336 posts | JohnOvManc said: hey all, JohnOvManc just saying hello Some ppl here have met me before at other forum meets or gyms round about manchester... helo to everyone who was at Sugdens Strongest... I was stood with boar/fat pete everyone else, I've got no respectable achievements so I'm just your everyday garden BBer type trainer but have always had an interest in power/strongman stuff, I don't have what it takes to compete but I would like to increase my lifts a bit... to be perfectly honest I want to focus massivly on the deadlift. OK... where I need help DEADLIFTS, really doing my head in at the moment. Didn't train deads until late last year, progress was fairly swift, 180kg was my best 1RM but I hadn't tried for singles that was my 1st go. In Oct I torn my hamstring and had a lot of time off opening a shop in clayton (Manchester)... been back at he gym, trainings going well in all other areas but deadlifts it getting to me, I've got a huge urge to get to 200kg. But even tho 180kg went up easy enough before the ham tear so weeks I can not get it off the ground and it leaves me mentally feeling deflated. Got some advice on other forums... reduce reps, increasing singles but still faling short. Should I forget the single 1rm for a couple of weeks and start repping again? If so... what should I rep for my worksets? thanks in adviance my advice is mate do forget the 1 rep wonders. yiour gonna be stuck for a long time. dedicate time to reps 5 -6 reps with a weigth you can do. also vary your heights eg above the knee, just below the knee, standing on a platform. lose the wraps i would think you got some pycological thing due to hamstring been torn which is understandable. just take your time and with training you learn as you go on mate. also...................use drugs hahahah

jonny big guns Member 592, 69 posts SQ 160, BP 120, DL 180460.0 kgs @ 75kgs UnEq | IainKendrick said: Tannhauser said: Poor old JOM. All he wanted was some help with his deads. Right, my deadlift sucks monkey balls and there are many on here who can give better advice on seets/reps. However, my contribution is: lose the straps and get some chalk. My background is in BB and general gym work, so I was a heavy user of straps. When I swapped to powerlifting, my grip was really weak. It's taken 8-12 months to get to the point where it doesn't hold me back. Now I can't stand straps, I don't need them and I won't ever go back to using them. You don't really know how much you can deadlift until you bin them. I too feel slightly sorry for him, but I know he dosn't like powerlifting gear so he can suck donkey dick (I joke John!!!) I agree with Cliff ditch the straps. Further you need to concentrate on cycling you loads and volume. How you do this is all depenedent on what works for you. A good start is the Ed Coan/Phillip training program that is floating about. Many people have used that to good effect and there's plenty of volume on assistance work tyo keep up the muscle mass gains if your eating heartly. Essentially you work up to one heavy set a week and then get the volume in on lighter down sets followd by a few assistance lifts. The loads are cycled over a 10-12 week plan. Off course you could do all that but you'll never know if becoming a steelfixer is the one true key! cheers ^^^ funny thread... just catching up now
