I've had a home gym for 3-4 years now, love it, would never go back to a regular gym. I don't like ... people.

Basic set up would be something to protect the floor, a cage, a bar, a bench and plates. That's pretty much what I've settled on, nothing original.

What I would say is buy quality, as best you can. I ended up replacing s**t bars and s**t plates over the years and it ended up costing me more. Doesn't have to be top-of-the-line but definitely buy some decent kit.

As Fazc says, buy quality, even second hand quality is usually still fine and will last you just fine.

PAGAN said:Moving house mate and I wont have a big f**k off double garage at the new gaff.

I have power rack, bench, bar ( slightly bent but a Pendlay one) 120k in weight ( sold loads off already)two mats , fat dumbell handle, axle and log.

I'm not sure how much if any of it I really want to sell as I could put it outside at the new place but I can see most of it going purely for financial reasons.

Moving house is exciting but a massive pain in the arse. Have you found somewhere if not Make a massive garage part of your criteria.

buy cheap, buy twice.
all my kit is Strengthshop for the basics - bumpers and bars (all great) aswell as my rack, aswell as my harness a sled and so on.

JT for strongman kit - his log is just fantastic, well worth the investment I feel. aswell as the rest of his things like the stones

Watson for specific kit like the grappler and handles, my grip kit etc.

Cheers all, and thanks for that marvelous offer Boar, you are a gent.
I may have sourced a second hand power rack for 150 and second hand plates at 1.20/kg. Will look into them I think.

The price in that link says £999 when you go to pay for it - not £295. Confused

Have I just pooped on your party, Pete?

I'm assuming thats a mistake Dan, as loads of their products say £999, even just a set of squat stands.

Is benching a massive priority? If not I'd get squat stands and wouldn't bother with a bench. Then spend the £ saved on decent bar/bumpers/plates/sm equipment. That's what I'd have done if I could go back and equip my gym from the start. Not sure what your goals are tho.

Not gonna bother with strongman kit Will. Just wanna squat bench deadlift overhead and row/pullup really.

unless you are going to do over head lifting and intend to drop it you dont need rubber weights and you can get a decent bar these days for less than 100 quid

power rack good shout for safety but again you could buy some free standing

squat/preesing stands that can then be put out the way when not in use saving space

in your garage depends on how comfortable you feel using them they can double up use

for benching too but safety even more so when benching alone
