Whey and water = quick to break down into amino acids in the blood stream (much more blood flow around workout time too, I think 8 times more) for the muscles to absorb. Milk protein is 80% casein and 20% whey, along with fats that further slow down the absorption rate. Casein is excellent around bedtime as it takes around 8 hours to break down fully, so is a poor substitute. I'd go for milk if I didn't have any protein powder though.

It has insufficient enzymes due to pasturization and/or heat treatment. The protein isn't high quality for the same reason and way too low for most peoples requirements, even if it's high enough you can't digest it without the suitable enzyme activity. Lactose is a bad source of carbs and poor sugar (for the same reasons as previously mentioned, and most westerners cannot tolerate lactose) and by skimming it you increase the nett content of them. It does my tits in people going on and on about milk and chocolate milk. You are wasting your money, don't buy milk, save the money and buy some whey. SIMPLE

some nice relaxing jazz. Member 77, 12599 posts SQ 265, BP 165, DL 280710.0 kgs @ 93kgs UnEq | Milk is a good food source if you are not lactase none persistent. Choc milk has been shown to be as generally as whey and sugar after training. Speed of digestion and absorbtion is overrated for most peoples needs. Infact Casein tends to create a greater total increase (area under the curve) in protein balance than any whey. This is depsite whey having the quicker and larger peak protein balance. Bottom line; Its not magic. Its not evil. Don't listen to those that suggest either side. Decide if it fits your whole diet and needs.

A simple test, use milk instead of good quality source of protein for a month. Not only will you not develop or repair lean muscle tissue as effectively, you will also put on bodyfat. There are other alternatives Almond milk, oat milk.
