Even the guys spotting don't look impressed.

Shame that some feds have come to this, because powerlifting in its purest form is a fantastic sport and it could have made an Olympic sport.

No denying that Donny is a strong guy but this stuff doesn't interest me.

Fatpete said:I take my hat off to the bloke. Granted he is doing something that I would not care to do myself, but he is playing by the rules of his fed, and using that amount of equipment must be a feat in itself. Cut it where you will he is a very strong man. I would have thought the people on these boards would have appreciated that. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it wrong, and it doesn't make it amy the less impressive.

Whilst I see what you are saying Pete, I think there are a number of reasons why I think people differ from this view.

Firstly, it doesn't conform to the rules of his fed. It conforms to how their judges have applied them in the past, and seemingly will do in the future. IIRC there isn't a single powerlifting fed who's rule book deviates from the idea that the crease of the hip must be below the top of the knee joint. You have a rule book for a reason.

i guess how the rules are applied has little to do with Donnie himself, but for many who expect to see powerlifting when they watch powerlifting, it is a abomination. In the same way that if fans turned on a variety of other sports and saw something manifestly different from what you knew to be the sport, they probably wouldnt like it.

Now, I like powerlifting, I wouldnt call myself a huge fan, but this isnt it. If I showed this to my dad and his ex lifter friends they wouldnt know what the hell was going on. It shouldnt be called powerlifting and that shouldnt be called a powerlifting squat.

And to answer the original question, no one gives a damn because it hasn't happened yet. When it does, people will care.

This is how I feel.

Only difference is that I love powerlifting. I think it is the best sport in the world. Watching this not only confuses me but also angers me slightly.

I don't give a s**t about this 3000lb total for the same reason I don't give a s**t about rob wilkersons "1000lb raw squat" - neither has actually happened.

It's just a bad camera angle. If you could see from the side, I can assure you his ass hits his ankles!

adamkeep said:Are people fed up with the rediculous lifts? The answer is yes! I know with the American lifters they are getting more and more into raw lifting. In fact an American just hit a 905lb raw squat this weekend. His Name is Chad Smith, he wrote the Juggernaught Training Method book.

Also a 387.5kg IPF unequipped squat (no knee wraps) by Blaine Summers

Indeed. Too much actual good powerlifting went on in the US to worry about what clownsville US multiply are up to. Did he get on the platform on a uni-cycle balancing a ball on his nose?

Any vid of the bench press? 950 pounds in a full meet is ridiculous!

I am more interested to see the guys' training vids, when lifting without gear.
Although I appreciate the movement of massive weights no matter how far, I relate more to raw lifting.

i watch this and it clears my soul

http://youtu.be/rCY-oIVSR2k

one of the most enjoyable powerlifting comps i have ever saw
watching kaz bench 280k and the all guys squats makes you question if the sport has done nothing but go backwards since

Chuck Dunbar! What a superstar. His squats looked a touch high though... what do you think?

We do have raw lifting in this country the bpc run those comps where belts and knee wraps are aloud

The gbpf (ipf) are now letting people use knee sleeves but I don't see how these effect people apart from keeping the joint warmer when not lifting and abit of support in the lift we will have to see what happens after the first Unequipped worlds next year if knees are going left right and center there maybe change but if there isn't we will just have to see what happens
