Cheers buddy! They look a bit weird technique wise so think if i get that sorted out i might be able to get some more on these.

After the comp i think ill have a play about with some different heights and see if pulling from higher feels any nicer.

Haha i never saw this before i went. Wish i did as i ended up getting my face burnt to f**k! Absolutly awesome weekend though and still not feeling fully recovered from it. Tonights dinner should have helped my condition a litte with a full rack of ribs preceeded by loaded potato skins tonight at tgis. Grin

Had the competition in dumfries today. Decided to go equipped but only used knee wraps. Weighed in at 99kgs.

Squats
1st Attempt - 205kgs - Good Lift - Easy
2nd Attempt - 215kgs - No Lift - Flew out the bottom but i fell forward, the the bar rolled up my back and folded
3rd Attempt - 220kgs - Good Lift - This time i drove my head back and got it without much fuss.

Squats i was a little frustrated with as i would have liked to have a go at 225 or 230 but i opted for 220 as i wanted to build my total. The 215 was just a technique mishap.

Bench
1st Attempt - 125kgs - Good Lift - Easy
2nd Attempt - 130kgs - Good Lift - Harder than it should have been.
3rd Attempt - 135kgs - No Lift

Bench wasnt great either as id been hoping for at least 135 but the pauses were maybe a little longer than i was used to and probably should have practiced these a little more.

Deadlifts
1st Attempt - 260kgs - Good Lift - Easy
2nd Attempt - 275kgs - No Lift - Pulled it but grip opened up and didnt straighten my legs because of it.
3rd Attempt - 275kgs - No Lift - Left hand opened up at the start and couldnt hold on

Was a bit annoyed with my deadlifts. Frustrating as the weight isnt the limiting factor. Need to hammer my grip from now on and just not use straps for any assistance stuff and see how things go.

Total = 610kgs

Overall not an awful day but not a great day either. Martin got a video of most of my lifts so will probably post them on here in a couple of days time. Ended up with a +5kg Comp PB and getting the best equipped lifter (by default) but was hoping for better.

Well done taking your new comp PB.
What was the issue with your grip? Was it a smooth bar or did you have sweaty hands or what?
All in all nice numbers, particularly on the squat!

You were very unlucky today on that deadlift mate, like you say the strength is defo there just got to get the grip up to par!

Squats better by the looks of things. I would ditch the sling shot for anything other than heavy triceps when your using sets and reps for bench press doing 3s in the 110 region your not getting much bang for your buck. For a 140 bench press 110 should be easy 10 rep weight.

If your set on the sets x reps approach you might want to try a 3 up one down loading progression. Week on week it might look like this.

110 3x5 -> 115 3x5 -> 120 3x5 -> 102.5 3x5

On a second day you might want to do some 3x3 work to using the slingshot to overload the movment.

Bench press responds very well to rep work in my experience.

i dont know what your on about but you bench 202.5 so i guess you know what your on about. plus looking at gem gem's photos of the scottish we had some lovely cuddles



was the comp in dumfrise a goodun, anything of note?

Cheers buddy! The bar was a bit thinner than im used to but i think the main thing is just not having the grip strength. I did a rack pull with 275 and my left hand opened but didnt expect it to be a major problem going into the comp. Going to make it a priority to sort out.

Cheers guys! I was wanting more than i got but i think as the weights get higher theres more chance of something going wrong so just need to avoid making the same mistakes next time.

Yeh this sounds like a solid plan which i might give a go. Im not set on sets and reps etc so if there was something else you think would be better feel free to suggest.

For the past wee while ive always done close grip on my second bench day but you think it would be more worthwhile benching with my comp grip twice a week?

Oh and the squat was with knee wraps so still got a long way to go.

Haha yeh i dont mind taking advice off someone with a bench over 200kgs raw.

The comp was pretty good. There were some good lifters competing and a few guys doing their first comps too. Was a really good venue for it too with plenty of space for everyone and to warm up. Just saw theres some pictures on the scottish powerlifting facebook page.
