Has anyone got any advice on cheap (sub £500) runabouts?

Need a small car for the summer, preferably something german?

look for a mk1 seat arosa or a mk4 polo pre 6n faclift get 1.9 diesel there pretty good or you could get a mk1 seat ibiza

Been looking at some polos and golfs, could have a look at seat.

Don't like Japanese cars, never have done.

Japanese and German are win. Maybe even go for something that's cosmetically damaged which lowers the price tonnes but means you're really getting a bargain. I did it with a civic and it was a godsend.

I worked for Citroen for 15 years so to be honest I can repair anything on them!!

If I didnt have that background I would Have Honda all day long!! Oh yea I used to teach for Honda Uk!!Grin

I drove sub-£500 s**tboxes for many years.

The pick of them was the diesel Citroen ZX. It finally died last year. It was great...surprisingly good handling, economical, and with an indestructible engine.

Look in the local papers, ask around. Beware though you could end up with a 100,000+ miles on the clock clanger. You might get a good PX to clear on the other hand from a dealer.
