Doubt I'm gonna train now before the BSM U-105 qualifiers in 2 weeks due to being f**ked from work. Working 7days a week the last couple of weeks and will only have the Friday and Saturday off before the comp.

Just curious if others have been in a similar situation and how there performance on the day was affected by work commitments. Before anyone mentions it I'm not pulling out of the comp. Done too much of just pulling out of them due to laziness..

I had my work hours entended this year, up at 6am mon-fri n dont get home usually till between 5-30 and 6-30 depending on the day. I usually rely on high amounts of caffeine and dont sit down when i get in otherwise id not get back up Grin

I'm just generally too tired mate. Long hours are s**t aren't they. I hardly see the missus either. I work 6.30am-6.30pm so I'm up at 5am. By the time i get to the gym it's 7pm then I'm home at 9 on the sofa flat out. It's not fair on her either.

I usually only work 4 days a week but need the cash. And the overtimes there to be had but it's just s**t lol..

I'm necking t5s just to keep motivated in work let alone training lol..

i sometimes have to walk miles in work and after a hard legs day then work i do feel knackered. I seem to let gym affect my energy in work rather than the other way round tho which aint good cos ppl just think im lazy when i have been training hard. Work on the railway btw.

Not a nice situation mate. If its a physical job then its even worse (Ive been there before...)

I find my work ok(8:30-5:00) but the 3 hours of driving every day is what ruins me (in a s**te 1.0 corsa). I do another 30 minutes on a gym day as well. Bring on the home gym in the next few months...

man i can relate to this when i was working in a manual labour job, stacking 20kg boxes for 10 hours a day, i didn't feel like training so just did 2 night per week but just did a lower body day and upper body day. where lower was just deadlift and squats and then upper was bench incline and rows.

hope you can get something sorted.

Most world champions in a lot of sports worked full time on the side since their sport didn't bring enough money in until the reached the absolute top (boxing, weightlifting, strongman, to name a few I'm familiar with), its easy to say but even if its an hour every other day to do some squats and presses, you can fit it in I reckon Joe, I don't know many details of your situation but wanting to do something trumps situational difficulties most of the time.

You don't need to stop training at all.

Surely you have time for two sessions a week? One squat, one deadlift, work up to a five rep max and follow it with either overhead press or bench. Get it done in sixty minutes, or terminate the workout.

What's wrong with you? Are you a man or a mouse???

not a great situation especially if never seeing the missus and its getting on her nerves. however its a situation of your choosing mate. you have decided to do overtime n u signed up for the comp.

u could just do what others have suggested, couple of quick workouts each week covering the big lifts. i now from experience that no matter how tired u feel sometimes when u make the effort to get to the gym once your there things just click in2 place, some of my best workouts have been when i didnt want to go n felt f**ked.

as for regular use of t5s, your only gonna end up feeling worse once the effects of them have worn off, you'll end up like them lorry drivers who live on red bull, addicted to em n in a constant dazed state lol

i agree with big gray here. For me, getting off the sofa is the hardest part sometimes but by the time i have done my first couple of sets im glad i bothered.

He has a girlfriend and child who he wishes to see after a 12hr shift......dont think 'man or mouse' comes into it TBH

Joe, your a naturallt talented, strong guy. Is it the ideal prep? No! But you wont lose much if any top end strength in a few weeks, so dont worry about it IMO

This is good advice - long days and shift work have been with me for 20 years - less excuses more work.

Over 2 weeks you will lose nothing. Another couple of sessions would be nice, but your last week should mostly be rest anyway.

The important thing is being as well rested as possible. Get plenty of sleep over the last few days, as you may not sleep well the night before, and try to avoid quite so many stimulants.

Best of luck.
