It creates a structured way of getting the bar progressively closer to the chest. The difference in the last few sessions before a comp is increasing the weights as the boards get lower. A couple of weeks ago I was working up to my heaviest weight off the 3-board and then decreasing the weight as the boards got lower. This is what builds strength in the lock-out and is why I've been able to go from 200x1 off a 1-board to 215x1 off my chest (nearly) in a month.

How are you getting closer to the chest with lighter weights? Do you just not pull the collar down as much?

Do you just not pull the collar down as much? Because they're only 'lighter' relative to the weight off the 3-board. For example, to overload your lock-out, you might go 230 3-board, 220 2-board, 210 1-board. To warm-up to a heavy press off the chest, you might go 175 3-board, 185 2-board, 195 1-board, 215 chest (almost), as I did in my last workout. I think it would be ideal to establish a 1RM off each board, which is what I will be doing in my next build-up. My collar stays in pretty much the same position for all my sets. I just smooth the wrinkles out of the front of the shirt before closing my belt. What I have found to be crucial in keeping the shirt in position is keeping my palms facing up as the sleeves go on. When it's on and I then turn my palms down, the sleeves are forced to rotate inwards, which in turn pushes the chest plate down and stops the collar riding up. With the Katana, if you pull the collar further and further down as the weights get heavier, the sweet spot moves and you may end-up lowering the bar closer to your belt. The way I have described, using a combination of disciplined form and weight to force the bar down to the correct spot on, or above, the chest, ensures that your technique and line is consistent from set to set.

Was toying with the idea of staying to help but was feeling really rough after finishing my squats so did very little and went home. Got a throat infection today which explains things. Anyhow, should be in tomorrow at 7. If I don't see you before the weekend's lifting, good luck!

There was an issue with spotters (Prof Forearms and Scottie Too Hottie), but that was enough work anyway at this stage. I'll be in tomorrow on my way back from the tanning salon for a pre-contest pump-up (and speed deads).
