Why not just not get fat in the first place? Member 132, 1406 posts SQ 331, BP 200, DL 320851.0 kgs @ 98kgs UnEq | Maybe that is due to the distance travelled decreasing as you get heavier in both squat and bench but not so in deadlift. I can't see how another stone or two of functional muscle can make anyones deadlift go backwards though. Maybe a stone or two of belly might though...

Member 665, 30 posts SQ 160, BP 105, DL 200465.0 kgs @ 82kgs UnEq | Yeah I was going to say, extra weight just means the bar doesn't have to move as far on bench press! Bit like a board press....belly press? Some cheeky implants could reduce the ROM even further...

Member 665, 30 posts SQ 160, BP 105, DL 200465.0 kgs @ 82kgs UnEq | Yeah, that'd do the trick. I bet she'd have a great bench, so long as she could hold her breath long enough to make the lift. Breathing with those badboys must be pretty hard if you lying on your back.

a PB is a PB ! Member 539, 1086 posts | 17 stone and 5ft 6. yep i'm morbidly obese. I think without my belly getting in the way when I was 11 stone deadlifting felt more comfortable but I am a lot stronger than when I was 11 stone. Swings and roundabouts with this one I think.

Old Age Presser Member 75, 7743 posts SQ 0, BP 200, DL 200400.0 kgs @ 105kgs Eq | Interesting study, but it doesn't factor in the skill/speed/technique requirements of weightlifting. I can't see the same conclusions being drawn if the sample being studied was strongman-based (other than the biggest and tallest won't necessarily win).

I personally prefer the stiffest possible. Member 158, 3110 posts SQ 170, BP 107.5, DL 222.5500.0 kgs @ 67.4kgs UnEq | I dropped (a little) weight (last year) and managed to increase my deadlift, the other 2 lifts stayed the same

I think it just assumes they all had solid technique since they were world champions But yes, it's limited, I would like to see such a study done on say, just the squat or deadlift. There probably is one to be honest, I only read medical journals not sports ones.

tabbouleh and fattoush salads were very refreshing Member 267, 8548 posts SQ 220, BP 165, DL 250635.0 kgs @ 90kgs Eq | squat and bench - being bigger generally implies bigger lifts. deadlift - much more of a body mechanics dependent movement, so if your hands are small and arms short then you'll always struggle with this lift no matter how much muscle/fat you pack on.

left the country satisfied Member 10, 19241 posts SQ 240, BP 150, DL 270660.0 kgs @ 107kgs UnEq | its swings and roundabouts. When i was 6 foot 7 i found pressing a struggle. I thought it would affect my deadlift, but its been consistantly s**t. I then decided to give 5ft3 a try, sure, it did help with pressing, but shopping in supermarkets became a chore.
