I've dealt with an injury to my SI joint for the last 4 years, just finally got a cortisone shot to relieve the pain. I kept lifting through the issue after it happened and life was a bummer, everything I did hurt! Last November I stopped barbell training, but instead used dumbbells, sandbags, kettlebells, weight vests, all sorts. A lot of my aches and pains went away almost immediately! I've hardly lost weight, went from 105kg to 100kg, but look and feel much better. I don't feel like I've lost a lot of strength, maybe I can't deadlift like I used to, but my back is plenty strong, same goes for other movements/muscles. It was a seriously refreshing change of pace.

Just food for thought if you decide to take a different path.

Don't know what you lot are going on about anyway.

You only need chest and biceps twice a week with dumbbells.
Then one session of machine leg press.

I stopped lifting in 2007 for about 6 months. My stretchmarks looked worse because my skin was floppy. Also, I felt generally weak for everything.
Even my lovelife suffered.

I packed lifting in for a couple of years or more, and only recently got back into it (2 months now). Aches and pains associated with lifting disappeared, but I gained a lot of weight (went up to 121 kilos) which brought its own health problems!

I have since lost 25 kilos, this has been both fat and muscle as I did f**k all in the mean time. This has meant I've suffered a great strength loss, and I was'nt that strong to start with!

Since I've been lifting again, I have noticed a return of all the same old aches and pains! Numbers are going back up again but it's a very slow process.

IT IS LIKE COMING WITH A WOMAN!!!

It's no big deal. You just have less in common with people on Sugden and as soon as someone mentions a PB your only response is to 'save this thread' with a picture of a pair of tits. At least we used to before Sugden got all s**t.

I kinda become all chicken like, scrawny with very little shape. I also feel when I lift, when you hear like "only 10% of people survive this disease" well I absolutely would survive because I lift, right?

Being pasionate about anything is a great feeling and certainly lends itself to giving you a sense of self worth and self confidence. Add in the obvious physical and social benefits and lifting really is a great ingredient of a happy existence.
However, if you can't contemplate life without it and are completely unable to walk away from it should life dictate such then you really have a problem IMO.
Any form of exercise should add to who you are not be who you are.

JohnGym said:In my opinion Jack, I think you would benefit from a years worth of bodybuilding training. Choosing exercises other than squats and Deadlifts for your legs and back. (Dorian Yates never used Squats)

I think most people find powerlifting after graduating from doing some sort of bodybuilding work. The bodybuilding work creates good muscle balance and strengthens ligaments, tendons and muscles without overly stressing the body, which provides a foundation to train heavy without getting injured. You never had this foundation and consequently find yourself injury prone. Just a theory. Do whatever the f**k, you wanna do. Happy

this is the process im entering now

He's like Cobra. He's a specialist who does the job that no one else wants to do. Lifting is a disease and Aaron's the cure.
