I thought you would be using 1.25's as a pre workout snack TBH

Train at home with my own stuff, and pretty much always use the same combinations of plates to get a certain weight, so my 0.5kg plates see some use. Helps a bit with percentages in 5/3/1, I can progress my OHP by small amounts.

When I've done things like 20 rep squats or start low add weight each session squat/deadlift I've not bothered with less than 5kg increases.

They are great for Olympic Weightlifting no?

5-10kg snatch PBs are very hard to.come by.

Shaun Clegg 141kg Snatch off Blocks
John Marsden 311kg Deadlift
Adam Travis 181kg Power Clean

These are all works of art I'm very proud to of instigated !!!!

I insist on it at my place !!!!!

A lot of individuals are f**king floating back in the 80s with some of their training mentality ..

I can bench 5 plates a side ! in the summer I'm gonna go for 6 a side !!!!

Tom Martin is an expert of the 1kg PB !! His progress is phenomenal !!

Remember 1-1/4's all these sciences I don't understand! It's just my job 5 days a week!

What Mark said....

Micros for the win!

I was doing this regularly at one time and was able to add quite a bit of weight to my 5 rep bench PB. The reason was as other have stated that weekly increases of 2.5 would have been too much to manage and the micro plates allowed me to increase my lifts every week throughout a training cycle.

I acknowldege that not using the same plates could potentially render small changes useless though.

Mark

If Marsbar did his 310 at a strongman comp, they were no doubt with metal plates

In theory the weight could have been 307 or it may have been 313

Shaun is a bit different as he lifts on same Eleiko calibrated paltes week in week out

For those who dont do this, a 1KG is pretty meaningless

I have access to Eleiko bars + plates week in week out AND I'm weak as piss at the moment so every 1kg counts!

pbs are essential to my mental health

1k pbs keeps me healthyHappy
Micoloading, I can see no downside at all..
Avatarcowie
Never used anything else in the past albeit for 6-8 rep sets, progress was slow but very effective

In fact Shaun trains on exactly the same equipment as John does ..

None of it calibrated - we can't afford it . Wether it weigh 307kg or 311kg or 200kg I want to make sure they lift more than they did the week before .. That's all .

I have a lad now just started Olympic weightlifting . He "could" lift 100kg clean and jerk NOW .,
He won't though of course I'll spoon feed him 20 exercises x 1,2,3 & 5 rep ranges x 1kg every now and then . Resulting in this guy hitting 5,6 PBs a week for the next 5 years ..

This in called intelligent coaching ..

A numpty would let the kid hit 100kg today and wait 6 months to hit 120kg clean and jerk thus losing him to a lack of motivation ..

JC - I would never expect to convert someone like you, you are an ultra metro sexual ..

I like that idea, Mark! I rarely, rarely micro load. I should!
