Thanks, Mr. Bench.

Wednesday

Weird phenomenon today, where my deadlift grip actually got stronger through the sets. At the third set, I couldn't hold onto it for a second rep. By the last set, my grip felt pretty comfortable. Odd - and not the first time it's happened.

Can't seem to get my groove back on deads. Close grip benches were good.

The owner reported this conversation by two 16 year old girls, with referece to me:

A: Why does he make that noise [ refers to grunt of effort on deadlifting]
B: I don't know, but I really want that belt.

Kids, eh? Thick as s**t.

Deadlifts

70 X 5
70 X 5
120 X 2
150 X 2
180 X 1
210 X 2
210 X 2
210 X 1
210 X 2
215 X 2
220 X 2
225 X 2

Close grip bench

70 X 5
70 X 5
110 X 5
120 X 5
125 X 5
130 X 4

Fat Grip work

4-5 sets pulldowns, mainly threes.
3 sets seated rows 4-6 reps.

A lacklustre session today. Tried beltless squatting for a change - quite a different experience.

I also had the following experience with the guy managing the gym:

[We move over to olympic bar, 150K, sitting on rack on bench press bench]

Me: If you could give me a hand off with the bar...

Him: Bench press?

Me: Yes. So just a hand of with the bar, then don't touch it. Don't touch it at all. Then give me a hand racking it at the end. Thanks.

Him: You don't want me to give you a hand? If you're struggling.

Me: No,don't touch it. Keep clear unless I'm absolutely stuck.

Him: Right.

What then happens is that: (a) he lifts about 2 kg on the hand off (b) he is afflicted with hovering hands during reps 1-3. (c) on rep 4, which is just about going up slowly, he cannot help himself, and lifts about 5kg to let me complete the rep.

I mean, one shouldn;t be ungrateful, but it's a frustrating process sometimes.

Beltless squats

70 X 5
70 X 5
120 X 3
150 X 2
180 X 2
180 X 2
180 X 2
180 X 2

Bench Press

150 X 3.75
150 X 2
[Gave up and did speed bench]

Paused speed bench - all reps paused

120 X 3
120 X 3
120 X 3
120 X 3
120 X 3

Oh, I've also done two days of cardio (walking while carrying fatgripz wrapped dumbells) in preparation for my walking holiday next week.

haha! always baffles me when a particular PT at my gym spots me, and i get 15-20 reps with 140 kg.

Saturday

Last session before my Summer holiday, and a good one. Push press wasn't really there today; I seemed to be pressing out the movement, rather than getting any snap from the legs.

Front squats went really well. However, I made the mistake of getting Mr. Hoverhands (see 19/7/10) to spot me on the last set. The kid on the other side did what I asked i.e. kept his hands clear, but I could feel Hoverhands' anti-gravity presence on rep 3. The seeds of doubt are now sown that he helped on rep 2, because it seemed suspiciously easy. No, no, no, get a grip, that would have tipped the bar. And as I was at a good 60 degrees on third rep when his hands began hovering, I'm going to claim that as legitimate.

Push Press

50 X 5
70 X 4
80 X 3
90 X 2
100 X 3
102.5 X 3
105 X 3
107.5 X 2
100 X 3

Front squats

70 X 5
100 X 3
120 X 2
130 X 3
140 X 3
152.5 X 3 PB
162.5 X 3 PB

Bent over rows

Grip felt more secure on the three last sets - and I think that's an effect of the Fatgripz training.

70 X 10
100 X 6
105 X 6
105 X 6

Thanks gents.

f**k me, waling up and down hills is hard work. Add in altitude, age, being a fat c**t, not doing any preparation at all and trying to keep up with a partner who weighs half what I do and it nearly finished me off.

I did however, manage to get to two French beaches and ogle some tits.

First day back training and ping! My usual muscle pull in my neck. Hey ho.

Friday

Strength is down but fitness is way up.

Push Press

70 X 4
80 X 3
90 X 3
95 X 2
100 X 2
105 X 1

Front Squats

70 X 5
100 X 4
130 X 3
140 x 2
145 X 1

I'm sure I did more sets than that, but can't remember what they were.

Bent over rows

70 X 10
100 X 8
100 X 6
100 x 5
Fat Gripz on

50 X 5 for several sets.

Sunday

A very lacklustre session today. That set of 200 X 7 on deads was hard work. Oh for the 227.5 X 5 days. I was shagged by the time I got to bench, so I did a perfunctory set then went home.

Deadlifts

70 X 5
70 X 4
120 X 3
150 X 3
180 X 2
200 X 2

225 X 1
227.5 X 1
200 X 7

Bench Press
