Friday 28th May

Good session. I'm trying to rein in my tendency to go too heavy, too soon on deadlifts. 200 kg for doubles was just fine for me tonight.

Close grips went up a bit faster than last week.

Deadlifts

70 X 5
70 X 5
120 X 3
150 X 2
180 X 1
200 X 2
200 X 2
200 X 2
200 X 2
200 X 2
200 X 2

Pulldowns on the 'other machine'

9 X 6
10 X 6
10 X 5
10 X 5

Close grip bench press

Warm ups
110 X 7
110 X 7
100 X 6

Seated DB curls in front of mirror, smoking a briar pipe

25s X 5
25s X 5
25s X 5

Sunday 30th May

I was really looking forward to this session. Unfortunately, I'm very vulnerable to neck injuries when I do overhead work, and I could feel an incipient strain on set no. 2. I backed off on the push press, but couldn't resist pushing myself on the last set of front squats. Almost dropped the bar on the last double.

I didn;t want to aggravate my neck any further, so did some pushdowns for triceps. It's so long since I have done any that I couldn't remember how to adjust the pulley machine. It's an exercise I did for 20-25 years, and now it just feels weird and vaguely disatisfying. The differences between powerlifting/strength training and bodybuilding are just huge.

Push Press

70 X 5
80 X 2
90 X 3
100 X 3
100 X 3
90 X 4
90 X 4

Front squats

70 X 5
100 X 2
130 X 2
140 X 2
145 X 2
150 X 2
155 X 2

Barbell curls, in squat rack

55 X 6
55 X 6
50 X 5

Pushdowns

3 sets, until my gunz were pumped, like, to the max.

Tuesday 1st June

Despite only doing two exercises, this was tough going today. I gave myself plenty of time between sets so I could get the reps I wanted. It's a good step forward. Doubles on 180kg squats last week and trebles this week. 135 X 4 isn't a million miles away from starting to press 140kg for reps again.

Squats

70 X 4
70 X 4
120 X 2
120 X 2
150 X 1
180 X 3
180 X 3
180 X 3
180 X 3
180 X 3

Bench Press

70 X 4
70 X 4
100 X 4
130 X 1
135 X 4
135 X 4
135 X 4

Thursday

I'm back on creatine now. Man, I get so much out of it, and I'm sure it isn't a placebo effect.

I ought to be pleased with deadlifts - after all, I'm 10kg up from last week. But somehow, they just feel....heavy. In a way 210 never should.

On the plus side, the close grips were very strong tonight. I paused the first rep on most sets.

Deadlifts

70 X 5
70 X 5
120 X 2
120 X 2
150 X 1
180 X 1
180 X 1
210 X 2
210 X 2
210 X 2
210 X 2
210 X 2
210 X 2

Pulldowns

Warm ups
90 X 7
95 X 6
100 X 5
100 X 4

Close grip bench press

70 X 5
70 X 3
100 X 3
120 X 4
120 X 4
120 X 4
120 X 4
100 X 10

Thanks gents.

Saturday

I was up late last night,, so I entered the gym not in the mood for any solid work, and got distracted into testing 1 RMs. Still, it was good. My strength on fronties and push press has recovered much faster than on the big three lifts. I'm 5kg off my previous PBs in both. I was sorely tempted by going for 172.5 on the front squats, but I don't think I would have got it today.

Push Press

70 X 5
70 X 4
80 X 3
90 X 2
100 X 1
105 X 1
107.5 X 1
110 X 1
100 X 2
100 X 2
100 X 2

Front squats

70 X 5
70 X 4
100 X 2
120 X 2
140 X 1
145 X 1
150 X 1
155 X 1
160 X 1
165 X 1

Seated DB curls, not in front of mirror today as my place was taken by a Polish girl who did some DB press, and also did some ballet stretches that had me leering at her like a priapic old goat

25 X 6
25 X 6
25 X 6

Tuesday

Disaster! I was due squat for six sets of doubles with 190. I was very comfortable with this weight. First set, first rep, fine. Second rep, I just bombed. I don;t know what happened. I somehow got into an olympic squat and couldn't recover. Unfortunately, the bars on the squat rack are non-adjustable and so bloody low that I was bent double like a squashed spider trying to dump the bar. Initially, it felt like my rotator cuffs had been shredded, but they are fine. My kness, however, has now started clicking and is definitely not right. Unhappy

Abandoned squats. Bench press was still good, though, showing some defintie improvement.
