Monday 26th ish July

Sometimes the gym is a vision of hell. Today it was blazing hot, no fans, no air con. Whacked up full blast on the stereo is some useless hip-hop s**te, with lyrics along the lines of 'f**k that pussy, nigga, yeah, uh-huh'. Lazy, boring, rubbish for people who really hate music. All on one note for what seems like half an hour at a time, but impossibly the c**t can't even rap in tune to that.

On the plus side, got a modest PB on push press. the second single was a grinder, making the remaining three sets hard going.

Front squats were hard going but 5 X 3 with 140 is good work for me.

Tried out my Fat Gripz. I thought "this way, I can train back and grip at the same time." Ah ha hahhahahahah. No. I forgot that my hands are no bigger than a midget's. Last week I rowed 100kg comfortably without straps, 120 with straps. tried 50 kg with the Fat Gripz and nearly dropped the bar. I was forced to move down to 40kg, and even then I couldn't hold on very tightly. I guess that's why I bought them.

Push Press

70 X 5
80 X 3
90 X 2

Friday

Pleasing session tonight. I decided it was about time I tested out my 1RM. 210 cam up relatively comfortably, and I'm happy with that at this stage. Still miles off 227.5,but that's another story.

I've been depressed by the news that there's apparently one guy in the gym benching 150 X 8, and another doing 160 X 3. Mind you, both are bodybuilders, so there may be an element of upright rowing going on. Anyway, I thought it was about time I pushed onwards, and I'm pleased with 150 X 3.

Fatgripz are amazing....the weights I use with them are puny, but they pump my forearms up like balloons and I think they will help my grip.

Squat

70 X 5
70 X 5
120 X 4
150 X 1
180 x 1
190 x 1
195 X 1
200 x 1
205 X 1
210 x 1
180 X 5

Bench Press

70 x 5
70 X 5
120 X 2
120 X 2
130 X 1
140 x 1
150 X 3
150 X 3

Paused bench press

120 X 3
120 X 3
120 X 3
120 X 3
120 X 3

FatGripz pulldowns

6 sets, 60 kg, 6, 5, 5, 4, 4, 3 reps.

Thanks, Ed.

Sunday

I wasn't expecting to be able to go today. Chest still a bit stiff from Friday, so I gave that a rest. I did a fair bit of FatGripz training today - I love them, even though they show up just how bad my grip is. I couldn't even pick 70kg off the safety bar with the fatgripz on.

240 kg on deadlifts - pfft, it's OK, but considering I did eight singles with 230 the other day, I ought to be good for more, and I'm definitely not at the moment. The difference between 220 and 240 feels like about 50kg, rather than 20. The back off set was good, though.

Deadlifts

70 X 5
70 X 5
120 X 2
150 X 2
150 X 1
180 X 1
190 X 1
200 X 1
210 X 1
220 X 1
230 X 1
235 X 1
240 X 1
210 X 5

FatGripz rows

45 X 6 6 sets

FatGripz curls

40 X 6 3 sets

Wednesday 7/7/10

What a great session. I've been really stuck on 100 X 4 on push press. Suddenly, along comes 100 X 6!! It was hot and I was feeling lazy about front squats, so I just thought I'd max out on singles today. Another result! All time PB - only by 2.5 kg, but it was pretty convincing. It must be those fatgripz.

Push Press
50 X 5
70 X 5
70 X 4
80 X 3
90 x 2
100 X 6 PB
100 X 3
100 X 3
100 X 3
100 X 3

Front squats

70 X 5
70 X 4
100 X 2
120 X 2
140 X 1
150 X 1
160 X 1
165 X 1
172.5 X 1 PB

Fat Gripz seated cable rows

about six sets of 5-10 with 6-8 on the selectorised machine. I can't even feel that in my lats, I might as well be lifting a cushion up and down. But my forearms - that's another story. One in which my forearms ache.

Good sessions pal. Your we'll on the road pal. Me thinks you should think about a meet at some point. Get back in the competitive saddle if your still game?

Definitely there on the ancillary exercises, Ed. Still someway off on the big three, but closing all the time.

I've heard great things about FatGripz, do they seem to making much of a difference to your grip strength?

Might have to invest in some soon!

It's too early to tell yet, but I will be surprised if they don't. My forearms look like Popeye's after a few sets using them. The only problem is that they are a bit too tough to hold onto for mme - I have to use baby weights with everything.

Sunday

It's been a funny old week. I sold my highly modified supra (556 bhp) after seven expensive years of ownership. It went to some czech guys that had driven 800-1000 miles to collect it. Mrs. T's car gave up the ghost after ten years of ownership - picked up a new car yesterday. And thirdly, the Frome Literary Festival failed to recognise my literary genius in their short story competition. Bunch of c**ts - what do they know, anyway?

Right, today's workout was OK. It was delayed by two days through unavoidable laziness. 140 X 6 is another improvement on bench. 200 X 2 on squats is probably my limit at the moment. FatGripz continue to rock.My strength has gone up on these as two weeks ago, I couldn't even hold onto 50 kg for rows. Happy
