Squatting two days in a row after a long break was a cretinous idea. What was I thinking? Couldn't walk on Wednesday. Back in today for the first deadlifts in months.

f**k me, I went to the gym again. This is getting to be a habit (I hope).

Legs were still killing me from earlier in the week. Squats were ultra-low.

Amazingly, I managed to get into the gym in the week. I couldn't get onto the bench as it was been monopolised by four lads bench pressing 40kg. Forced to use the Smith machine, named after Brian Machine.

Squats - beltless

Four speed sets - somewhere around 120-130kg X 3 reps

Strict Press

Three sets of six on squats - that's like marathon training for me. All the front squats were convincing and very deep - I don't recall trying 150kg before without a belt.

70 x 9 on the strict press back off set is also progress, though I've done 70 X 14 in the past.

A mixed sessions. I couldn't grip the bar for s**t today- felt the bar slipping on the first set with 210 and had to resort to straps for the other sets. Also weak on press - shoulders felt shot from benching before I started, and I couldn't get more than singles out of 90kg. Bench press was OK.

Gym was full of jailbait.

Sunday 13th March

Very stiff from Friday's workout, and my back was giving me problems yesterday, so I decided to use my belt on squats. I had forgotten what a difference it made. Everything feels so much more...solid, connected. I didn't use a huge amount more weight,however.

Front squat was OK; felt like there was a bit more there if I had done these at the start.

Whilst I was squatting, a girl of around 18 was chatting to the manager. I estimate that 25-33% of her speech consisted of the word 'like'. It had become a verbal tic for her - astonishing. And I couldn't help thinking what a thick c**t she was.

First time squatting 200kg for ages. It felt heavy Unhappy - the belt doesn't add as much as I thought. Press felt solid and poundages are moving gradually upward.

120 X 8 is a bit feeble on the bench.

An unscheduled set of light deadlifts at the end showed that my CV fitness is about equal to Jo Brand's.
