I bought a Profile fast forward carbon seat post which I found on offer and have already spent many hours using it on the turbo.

You're a star, cheers Ed. Having a video to follow might actually make me more likely to do it. I really need to get some flexibility in my hips and glutes.

In other news, I did my first ride of the year yesterday, 69 miles, 1350m of climbing - I got a lot of work to do.

Haven't updated the log for a while because I had to take a big backward step in my riding. I'm getting a lot of problems related to my pelvis, which is twisted. I need some physio on it and then I need a proper bike fitting. Hopefully I will be able to afford those at the end of January.

Plan for the next 6 weeks is just to build up the riding and do some hills/strength work on the bike.

Sounds like a weird injury.

I was hoping your new year goal would be to get strong again and to nail a 300kg deadlift,, or even just start training with weights for fun and maybe get shredded.

Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy it!

If I can find the time/energy then I'm going to try and get a few short sessions in a week. Mostly because I look like crap!

My days of lifting heavy though are long gone.

One thing that losing all the weight did show me that I didn't know before, I think I must have torn my pec at some stage, because it's got a nice bit of deformity to it that I didn't used to have. Bizarrely I think I did it bowling in a staff vs students cricket match...

Return of the old problems, mate? Sorry to hear it.

Ed, that's a really interesting video. Just a question of finding another half-hour in the day! Plus some of those I couldn't even hit the start positions...

Good luck with whatever path you go down this year mate, keep up the logging!

Maybe try building in side planks, planks, glute bridges and some transverse ab exercises for stability with your pelvis. They're the sort of thing my physio had me doing for a similar thing.. not sure if twisted and rotating pelvis is the same? Can only help your beach abs either way.

Do elite bikers do any sort of weights at all or is it all bike, bike, bike? You could easily end up with quite a weak core if the latter is true?

Under-arm bowling without a proper warm-up, he was asking for a pec tear.

t**ts! Grin I don't think it was the ferocious pace I was bowling at, more the fact that my clavicle is in the wrong place.... Although I am going to lose my position of opening bowler this year anyway. A new guy has started who has played for Trinidad 'A'. Puts them down at 85+. Holy s**t that's quick!

Yeah Rob I've been meaning to do some proper planned core work for about 6 months now and to be honest, never get round to it for all sorts of stupid reasons, mostly I forget. It's one of my plans for this year, along with a lot more mobility work.

Some cyclists do a bit of lifting, others don't. For a roadie you can do a lot of the 'strength' work you need on the bike by overgearing various workouts. Track riders do quite a bit.

Went the long way home tonight, just under 40 miles. Mimicked a single speed and didn't change gear, aiming to work on strength and my cadence in the same ride. Did two runs up a pretty tough climb, which if I'm being honest, f**ked me right up.

Doing a lot of single speed riding at the moment, trying to work on a few things. Main aim for Jan and Feb though is to improve cycling leg strength.
