I'm not trying to say that It would make you stronger. But been a brickie you will naturally have more stamina, stronger forearm (whichever trowel arm it is) an harder skin/grip compared to someone who types at a computer all day. I use to be on the od years ago and it kept me a s**t load fitter than I realised back then

Understandable, although from personal experience I feel it does not do much, it can wear your forearms out to much so you can't give them a full workout.

I agree with what your saying, but .... for me, I'm a uni student as I guess I spend a lot of time studying and when I get back to manual work it takes a week of being tired then I'm fine and adjusted back into work.

I can remember when I first started work, I couldn't even contemplate going the gym as I used to be falling asleep at 7:30pm when I was 18. It took me months to become adjusted from a school environment to a working one then training on top.

I can imagine it being the same for someone who comes from a computer job to a manual job it will effect their training. In contrast to the two it doesn't matter in my opinion, now I've started working it is more taxing on my lower back. What I will say is that someone coming to a computer job will feel very lethargical for a long time coming into a real heavy manual job and it will effect their training.

Overall, I'd rather an office job as it allows your body to not be under a lot of stress all the time as we all know strongman can be taxing on the joints.

I work in IT, so sat at my desk all week looking on here, facebook and daily mail (for the pictures of course).
How does that help me? it doesn't, it puts my fat hobbit like body into a horrible position for hours on end. Lovely.

I'm a maintenance electrician, I get a 30min break and an hour long lunch every day, would even be able to have a fly afternoon break if I wanted to get another meal in, though I usually wait until I get home.

I work mon-fri 8-4, so my job works well with my training.

Unless however, I have a day of working above my head after training overhead the night before. Those days are never very productive.

Who are you and how did you steal my life?

Occasionally I have to take servers in and out of the rack. It helps being strong for that but otherwise the heaviest thing I have to lift is a cup of tea. Sitting around all day makes me stiff an immobile so I what I can to keep on the move and get the blood flowing.

I'm a Electrical engineer working in Demolition now so pretty mush 70 % office based and 30% out on the park.

before that i was a Sparky working on a Industrial estate working on 3 Phase distribustion systems so lugging so was busy the whole time lifting and istalling cabling, lights, sockets, DB's etc. so i was lighter but its hard to say if i was weaker for it.

before that i was working in a Fish factory Loading Pallets with 20kg+ boxes of fish 8 to 10 hours aday so again i was lighter and fitter.

so as my jobs have changed my fitness has been greatly effected.

Similar story from me (hunched at a desk all day). I blame my weak overhead on poor office ergonomics. Grin But at least I usually manage to work out at lunch time by extending my hours a bit.

Didn't Andy Bolton have to jack in his job in the building trade (and take a pay cut) and work as a delivery instead as it was holding him back?

When I was at uni i could train as often and for as long as i liked. Now im back to my job i'm working 8-6 putting up big marquees for events and s**t so its all manual work, carrying and lifting. On the plus side i'm working outside everyday but I get home totally knackered and have little energy for training.

It does help with things like with conditioning and grip from carrying more and more odd shaped equipment and using 16 and 18lb sledgehammers to drive stakes into the ground (which is f**king hard in this weather). My strength from powerlifting has definitely helped and has made me better at my job over the years.
