Was wondering if people find it more productive to focus on either the squat or deadlift on their own, like spending a few weeks or even months prioritising one or the other?

Or if you progress better training both together?

I meant more as in a training cycle. Like 4-8 weeks doing a squat programme or deadlift specifically, only focusing on one lift during the entire period.

But as you bring up both in the session, doing deads after squats seems fine. If anything it cuts down on warm ups for the deads. (This maybe different for much stronger people though)

What baffles me is this group of old powerlifters that train at my gym (all used to compete and still lift fairly big) they often do squats AFTER deadlifts. Now that is just mental.

It's the opposite for me, if I hammer squats that's me done for the day, but if I hammer deads I can squat after.

My squat responds really well to me simply squatting more. Give squatting multiple times per week a go!

I squat, bench, dead lift in all my sessions, I may even squat twice in one session. Some may say its overkill but works for me.

Squatting and Pulling in one session, usually twice a week works well for me. In terms of focus, I focus on them both at the same time. It's just a matter of strengths and weaknesses.

I don't train either anymore, but I preferred to focus on squats and train deads now and again. When I did do deads I usually squatted in the same session.

I started lifting properly in January, I've deadlifted and squatted twice a week and both have come quite a long way.
Do whatever works for you

hmm if i did that i'd have to sack deads for a bit, id be willing to do that but its a son of a b**ch to get your form back. what ive started doing now is adding some romanians to my leg day as my hamstrings are very small and poor lol, hoping this will bring my squat and dead up considerably. aswell as training everything as normal of course!

Why would you have to get rid of deadlifting if you squatted 2 or 3 times a week? Unless its related to injury I'm sure you'd soon get used to it.

I once wrote about this in a thread a while back if I could find the thread I would re post it but I have always gone with the theory of some people are built for deads others are built for squats and once you find out which one suits you hammer the volume on that lift often people who are naturaly good at squatting due to levers can squat multiple times per week and heavy but people with levers thy benefit the deadlift can't do this in most cases although they can recover well from deadlifting multiple times a week

So once you know what your best at naturaly build your programs around volume on that lift and put the other lift on the back burner for me I'm a natural squatter and found squatting 4 times per week and deadlifting once to work really well if you were a natural deadlifter I would do it the other way round

Just something I have found with people I have trained with in the past when we tried it out

I think this is true, for me at least. I have squatted at max intensity 4 times per week for a 6 week block and felt I could take it further if anything.
Yet I'm still feeling knackered from my deadlift PB 4 days ago.

2 squat days, and 1 deadlift day (never in conjunction) each week works well for me
