Happy

Doesn't Benni still hold the straps (strongman) record as well as the powerlifting record?

Just some of the questions I've been pondering lately.

A gorilla weighs 25 stone and assuming you could train one to perform the lift, deadlift 1000kg. So my answers to your 3 questions are:

'a gorilla'
Yes, they have them at Chester zoo.
As explained above, a gorilla could.

THE powerlifting record ?

There are many, which does he hold ?

I thought his "records" were all unofficial

Rough guestimation, the bar would start at knee level for a gorilla. Tiny/non existent ROM + bar bend, is the bar really going to leave the floor?

With those short legs they'd be better squatters IMO.

Maybe I've thought about this too much lol.

I'd think a Gorilla would struggle to stand with that much weight on their feet to be honest.

From what I know (there may have been a lot of much better research done since) but historically many of the numbers regarding Primate Strength were taken from giving Chimpanzees big dynamometers to play with - often pissing them off in the process - and extrapolating from that.

I don't think shooting that Gorilla in the States recently would have been my preferred option but given that at any moment he was literally capable of tearing that child limb-from-limb - pretty much instantly - I can certainly see why they didn't f**k about.

Didn't Eddie lift the most at Arnold's of all time? I might be wrong the way I understood it was so far no one has beaten his best.I did hear to that benni was supposed to have lifted more but unofficial like so not sure.

interesting point. lamar gant had a spinal curvature that had him locked out at knee height. if he was benni's size (and capable of humunogous weights) with those outlandish leverages and using that daft bar they used at the arnolds, could imagine being able to lockout without all the plates leaving the floor.

Ideal ROM, lockout potential and power belly. Who else could close a COC #12 with their feet?

I would love to se a shaved or hairless gorilla.
They would be way way slimmer as they look now.Especially their arms.
Also i think the researches done with chimps and the dynamometer are bogus.
The scientist claimed a chimp is 7 stronger than a man and gorillas 15 times or so.
And people just repeat these urban legends and take it for a fact.
In my opinion guys like benni, shaw and eddie are at least as strong as a gorilla or stronger.

I don't reckon Ed and Benni etc are as strong as a gorilla. Maybe in certain movements, but not overall.
