Frankie Detorri can squat 350 and sexually tease a cuttlefish at the same time. And that's just with belt/wraps.

He followed the 'Milos of Crete' training program, with minor 'mammal' alteration (ask and I'll pm the spreadsheet).

Sheridan = strong tough mofo

but 800lb deadlifter? I somehow don't think so. I agree with Iain in that I reskon he would be able to do it if powerlifting was all he did though.

Also, I remember reading an article in Oxford about how half of the players on the England rugby team couldn't bench 140, and that generally they couldn't meet the strength requirements set by the coaches.
I'll see if i can find the article i'm thinking about.

a bit of a sweeping statement, not sure what you base this on

I know a few people who have palyed and met some of these lads, and the statement is 'straigh from the horses mouth' as it were.
In all fairness 'gear' is rather well used in the majority of proffesional sports where its posetive sides would be of benefit.

Be amazing to see vids of some of these lifts, in fact I'd say it would be miraculous.

My best mate is a professional rugby player, and not one person in that squad can deadlift or bench press over 250KG or 200KG respectively!!

I very much doubt Sheridan can pull that amount!!

this may be true, but strength coaches the world over still use the bench press as a basic test of upper body strength regardless of whether it translates well onto the athlete in question's sport.

Even the Oxford Uni Boat club strength coach here uses it to test his rowers and all they do is pull!

kinda silly that when it should be something relevant to the sport that they are doing and not just a specific movement with in gym conditions

But upper body strength is important. Pressing helps develop upper body strength.

Do you need 220kg of raw bench strength to play rugby? Probably not.
