in 1994 apparently Gary Taylor went over 600lb unofficialy , by the time that Guiness world records were ready to see him he was too ridled with injuries to attempt a lift

Wigan said:I read an interview with Nicu Vlad (Olympic and World Champion, and world record holder (200.5 snatch at 100 BW), and now a high ranking official in the IWF, and so probably as reliable a source as you can get, and he said he had seen Yuri Zacharevich (110 Russian lifter) jerk 300k from racks, so i would assume the the big Russian boys of the day (Taranenko, Kurlovich, Pisarenko etc) will have been jerking in excess of 300, shame YouTube wasnt around at the time Unhappy

this should be a sport! I would pay good money to see someone put 300+ over their swede!

Tarenenko got 272.5 over his head at europeans in cardiff in 1988 but couldnt be bothered to hold it so relaxed and didnt give a f**k attitude. so obviously strong enough just not officially compleated ?

I wonder what comp this is at the beginning .. I see Nikolay Peshalov (Bul) lifting a measly 110kg snatch .. Even though it's Black and White I don't think it's that old . 1988 ?

Edit ! - it's says on the banner 1989 Mark ! You twit !

Always interesting to re-read those articles - it gives a good insight into different training ideas.

And do like the term "restoratives"

Very interseting. He trained a LOT.

I liked the idea of his engineer coach creating what I figure to be an aperatus to force him in to lifting only in a certain line. Would love to see it in use.

Were there less issues about testing (ie it was ok for athletes to talk about it?) at this time? As he pretty much says others he knows were weak without their "restoratives"

B.C. What strength exercises do you favor?

Taranenko: The back squat is the most important strength exercise. I usually squat every day, sometimes more than once-a-day. My best back squat is 380 kg (837 lbs). But this is with a two-second pause at the bottom

WTF.....beast!^^^^^^^^. I presume that will be no belt/wraps too! Eek

He may have worn a belt, as he did when he was clean and jerking, but only a weightifting belt which is nothing more than a token gesture compared to a powerlifting belt.

Oh, and no wraps, I'm fairly sure about that Wink

Not sure if this is the same interview, but didnt he just stop front squatting as when he got up to 300 for reps he thought what's the point in carrying on, my legs are strong enough

Yeah lol. His reasoning was it was much more weight than he'd need to recover from a clean with. It was an easy 300 triple he did lol Grin
