First place!

Awesome, winning is hard, so its good when it lands on you once in a while Grin

Seven teams were competing in 10 events in total. Teams had 5 members, out of which one had to sit out in each event. Our team consisted of three u105 strongmen, one personal trainer/bodybuilder and one track and field athlete, so while this was an amateur comp we had all what it took to do well. I think we got our tactics more or less right which partly explains the win. Also the major points came from static and explosive strength lifts, speed and team events didnt go so well.

First event was the farmers walk for 200m, tw0 50-60kg logs in a very thin handle, akin to the old strongman event in the 80s. I got 180 metres and as i was doing the turn a bit too fast the right side bounced off my leg and escaped my hand. 8/10 points from that one.

Hay sack toss for height with a pitchfork. This was our worst event but actually it was bad for everyone so considering that, we got as many points as possible. Hard toss technically (how many times have you tried that before!), we all got it over the second line which gave us 6 points each.

Log drag team event, had to drag this log on grass around 40m course relay style. Fun event!

Stones. Banker event, they had these small dense stones, 70, 90 and 110, you had 3 attempts to lift them to a high platform. We just went straight for the 110 and nailed it with first attempt. Big points compared to non-strongman guys who

19kg weight for height. A handle in a small iron weight, my favourite event, got max points at first try, got the trajectory and power exactly right (fluke).

Barrel roll, 200kg whisky barrel had to be rolled around a circle two guys at the time. I sat this one out.

Stone put. Like shot put but with a 6kg natural stone. Got over 10m on first attempt for full points.

Hammer throw, sat this one out.

Log carry slalom. Around 4 poles, we made a mess of this, very technical and tactical.

Caber toss. At training on friday we couldnt even get close to tossing the bigger caber, so we chose to use our first try to toss the easy smaller caber. Went for the bigger caber really focused and determined to get it, fluked my fingers in a nice position in the bottom of the cabre, pulled it up, small flick, got the hands under it in a secure position, started leaning it forwards and as it tilted started running and BOOM! nailed it, great feeling to get it against all expectations!

Highlights were the cabre, and then the weight for height and how high it went.

Could have done the open class today (the weights they used were pretty much the same, apart from stricter rules, and lack of lighter options) but am busy all day so cant do it. Will definitely do another highlands comp again, they are really popular here in germany (almost 30 comps this year) so may as well.

In general i liked how the comp was run. Two teams were paired with a referee, and you started from a random event and continued around the field where the events were set up. So at any given time there were people from at least three teams doing something, this was good for the crowd as there was never a moment when something was not happening. This way they managed to do 10 events with 35 people in 4 hours. Something for the strongman scene to try out one day too?

Well done!

I do like the sound of that organisation, if you've got enough space and refs for it. Definitely better for punters.

Even if you just halved the field and ran two things at once, it would avoid a lot of the dead time.

it was fun man, i think also because it was a team event. If strongman team comps were designed like that they would be a lot of fun Happy
