Phil is a lifetime clean lifter, and a good friend of mine. He's a former European junior champion and has been lifting for years. If Phil hadn't have competed against some Eastern European lifters of dubious drug free status, he would have won many more European and World titles, in my opinion....and he's a Swansea boy to boot.

Superb stuff! Interesting that 3 of 5 English male lifters and at least a couple of the female ones are NW lifters - well out of proportion. Any idea why?

Joe may or may not be happy with his total, but he's clearly done what was needed to get the medal - that he WILL be happy with. Bloody good stuff from Big Mick!

Joe phoned an hour or so ago. He is not happy. The 290 squat (his opener) was the hardest he has ever done. the 297 was easier, and he couldn't get the 305 up. Those of us who have seen him train totally understand why he isn't happy. He knows that a 770 total is well within his compass, but he just couldn't manage it and worst of all, no real idea why. His last two deadlift failed at the knees, and we all know that isn't Joe. Still Chippy Saturday next week should perk him up a littleGrin

I believe he did, he gave it a run out at Colne for that very purpose. But you know Joe, he has more bench shirts that I have real shirts so a last minute switch is always possible. Doubt it though

Maybe he's just a bit under the weather or something. I feel for him, he's got a lot in him atm that's not quite coming out on the day.

Still, gold is gold.

Well done to all the guys, especially the north west lifters. Not forgetting Welsh Fruitie. Pity about Ian bombing on squats. As Porky says, he pisses 260 all day long. Joe struggled on squats as well. Maybe it was something in the air. Competitions on consecutive weekends is hard, I struggled in Colne after Italy the previous weekend. Do we have an overall result?

Well done to everyone. Joe won so that should be some consilation for some slightly down numbers. Karen did very well with PB's in both squat and deadlift.
