You are writing up or you have a PhD? What a coincidence. I spent 5 years not writing up a PhD and then spent a further 3 years as a post doc NOT writing up my PhD lmao! However, most of my time was spent in a Hospital dept or down in neuroimaging. Not quite as jet setter as yours it seems.

Not quite writing up yet. Got another couple of studies to do. The work in Nam was prior to me registering as a phd. Meant I have had a head start which is lucky as I have spent the last 18 months in the lab analizing the muscle biopsies taken out there. At the moemnt writing my 1st would be journal articles before I start my next study in the new semester.

Have you got a time limit to finish writing up? What field are you in?

No I've long since given up on it. The life of a dusty academic was/is not for me really. I fell off the end of my research contract and started my own business and haven't looked back. I suppose in theory I could resurrect it but what would be the point. I don't want to be a lecturer and am happy enough working for myself. Plus my French isn't good enough to do it here and I live in France now.

EDIT: Oh yeah it was in Neuroscience although I was mainly bringing my analytical skills to it - stats, mathematical modelling, etc.

And Jonny why didn't you just ask for a hug!! Carn't believe I missed out on rubbing up to a cute bear like youself!

Fancied a change/adventure. We were thinking of moving to the states (my in-laws are American) but in the end didn't fancy that. Always loved France so figured why not; now or never. Doesn't affect my work since all I need is an internet connection and some peace and quiet. Made sure we got somewhere with a big enough barn for a gym though Wink

Hey Boar, since I almost wrote up and got a couple of papers out of it do I at least get a peck on the cheek?

Nice one. Always envious of those with home gyms. I always thought the barn in your vids looked good but figured you were in some rural part of the uk.

2 Board press- 140x1, 150x1, 155x1, 160x1, 165x1 (new pb)
Bench press (comp and pinky grip), +doubled mini bands- 80x3x4, 90x3x1, 100x2, 110x1
Chin ups- 4x10
Cable rows- drop set, 10,8,6

Solid session and a nice new 2 borad pb. Still reckon I can get 170 with the wind blowing in right direction. Good block of speed work with the bands followed by a solid double and tough single. Then plenty of chins for upper back. Wish there was a proper chin bar at uni though. I'm hanging of the smith machine and me legs carn't hang straight.

DE Deadlifts- 160x1x12
Gripper work
Front/side planks- 1min x 2

That was that. Speed work felt good but some lifts didn't feel like enough leg drive. Probably becuase it was quite light. I actually have a nice slow-mo high res digital footage of one lift but the file is too big to down load onto youtube! Shame its poetery in motion. Except for locking out tbe knees too early.

Sorry 'dynamic effort', ie speed work. I used to note down whether it was a ME (max effort), DE or even SE (submaximal effort) work. But I don't bother now except when I slip up and do write it down Tongue

DE = Dynamic Effort (as opposed to max E, or repetition E). Fast as you can, light weight, not too many reps per set (doubles or triples), often lots of sets on short rest. Traditional westside has one ME and one DE workout for each of upper and lower body in a week.

Speed deadlifts. Do them to work on speed and form.

Curicuit of following x 1 (done at a leasurily pace ie 30s-1min rest between exercises);

Band incline press x40
Incline dumbbell press x20
Barbell push up x20
Lat raises x20
Bent over raises x20
Lat pulldowns x20
Machine shoulder press x20
Face pulls x20
2 Arm dumbbell rows x20
Dumbbell cleans from the hang x20
Hammer curls x20
Pressdowns x20

Then some band traction.

No real work today just some pre-hab work really. Right shoulder felt just a little achy so no med ball work, plus s**t outside and no place inside to throw.
