Very nice squatting. You'll be up to Ryan Reynolds's standards in no time. Wink

What difference do wraps make, Iain? I've no plans to use anything other than chalk until I can rep 4 plates-a-side for 5, but does using wraps benefit your knees in the longterm or something?

LOL! Good ol' RnR!

Well the wraps give me about 10-15kg carryover. I am therefore going to use them as a tool to do some supra-maximal squat work. Same idea as doing a partial squat, ie more weight, but I get the benefit of doing a full ROM and use the same tech as I would normally squat with. In the past I would use a high box squat for the same purpose. Have only used them once so far!

I squat heavy ever other week and do speed/light work in the other week. I will rotate 3 lifts on my heavy sqaut days; squat, low box and squat with wraps, performing mostly singles and doubles.

I will not use them as a tool to protect my knees. Some people do, whilst some people claim prolonged use can actually damage the knees. Go figure!

Medicine ball throws (chest pass)- 10x6 (pass-jog-pass, 2 min rest between sets)
MB chest pass into a wall- 5x2
Pulldowns- 10x2
Bent over raises- 10x3
Barbell curl- 5x4 (light weight despite reps)
Mobility work for shoulders.

Cool session. Finally go the MB out for some GPP style work. Verdict I need to do more! Out of breath and got a stitch by 3rd set lol! Plus I can work on my tan outside! Job's a good un.

Cheers Ian. What's all this deload stuff as well? Excuse my ignorance! I just go to the gym and try and lift what I did last week for more reps; I get p1ssed off when I can't, I raise the weights for the next week if I can. Is it not ok to carry on like that until gains stall?

Sorry for journal hijacking!

Not a problem pal!

Every 4th week I take it easy. This could mean very very easy (light curcuits) or still work hard but using higher rep ranges and no big 3 lifting. If I don't I'll just burn out and any niggles I have will get worse. I can no longer go balls to wall every week basically and expect to get stronger. Particluary as my main training is based on heavy max effort work, tough on the CNS. Its made a big difference to my progress adding the rest.

Of course there are other ways to control intensity, ie perodization, but this is one that works for me and is simple.

Deadlift- 220x1, 230x1, 240x1, 250x1, 255x1 (gym pb)
Squat- 120x2x2, 130x2x2, 140x2x3
Rolling thunder- 40x5, 50x3, RH-60/LH-55x1x2, 50x1x3 (5s holds)

Very cool session. It was an important one too. It will be the last time I max pull of the floor before my nxt comp and the 1st time I have pulled heavy of the floor since changing my stance 4 weeks ago. It didn't start out well as I had left my belt at home so did everything RRAAWW! So all in all very happy with the new gym pb. Havn't actually pulled more than 240 in a gym since dec'05 (Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam). The closer stance felt good with nice feeling of power of the floor and still the 2nd gear to lockout anything close to my knees. Bring on 600lbs!!!

Squats were nice. Don't mind pulling heavy without a belt but wouldn't like to squat heavy. Finished with some good support grip work on the RT.

I am 30 and I 1st picked up a weight when I was 16. York plastic set in my bedroom.

At college I trained for the 1st time regulary but wanted to be an officer in the Royal Marines so did huge sessions along with loads of running. At 19 I stayed on at college and started free weight training, before was just machines. This was the reall start of my passion for weights. Despite being a bit of a boozer I could pull 200 by the time I was 20 at 12.5stone after a couple of months of pulling.

I finally applied to be an officer in the Royal Marines when I was 21. So the weights took a back seat for a while. Fooked it up and become a gym instructor. Cue back to the gym, pearcings and tats!

Started uni at 22 and was benching around 120 by then at 80kg (touch and go). In my 2nd year decided to really squat instead of 1/2 squats (220 pb 1/2 squat) and to eadlift without straps. Weights took a dive but it was a start.

Unfortunatly in my summer hols when I was 24 I pulled my back warming up for the squat. I then really pulled it several days later. I couldn't deadlift again for 2 years and squating was problomatic 50% of the time. Was around 82kg then.

Around 25 I started a home gym with my mate. Got back into free weights propeer using standard gauge. Deadlifted again, my back just healed itself pretty much! Got back up to 200 quick and by xmass pulled 220 for 1st time at 26 using oly bar. I was back lol!

That brings me up to '04. the uni gym re-opened free weights room and I starte dto think about powerlifting and dabbled with westside training. By end of 04 decided I wanted to powerlift.

2005 I spent 6 months in Nam in 2 x 3 month tours. Great training, finished year with 250 dead and 145 bench. 2006 I started lifting doing 3 bench comps. 1st half of the year was s**te training, but get slogging on! It started to come good by the end of the year although and for my 1st comp in jan this year and pbs for the 1st time in over 12 months! Nice

So thats my training history for those that didn't want it Tongue

QUICK ANSWER: Been doing some kind of weights of training for 14 years. Free weight trainin seriously for about 10 years with about 2 years out of that for injuries and other stuff. I have been training soley to increase my 3 powerlifts for 3 years.

For those that read the whole thing applogies for any typos!!
