Sub-20 for your first 5k is a good start! And you'll soon be under 3:20 over 1k.

I might do a bit more erging this fall, but apart from maybe the 500 and 100m I won't be adding any new scores to the table, I'm afraid.

The main thing when you're starting out is usually to focus on keeping a steady pace. Did you go the same speed the whole way, speed up half-way through, go out too fast and crash?

The simplest and safest way to beat your previous time is to start out at the same average pace, then speed up if you can at the very end. This is easier to track on the screen using time/500m, so you would need to switch the display accordingly (you can always look at the calorie count at the end if you want; it's not very accurate anyway).

For example, for your 5k you averaged 1:58/500m. The next time you test your 5k, if you keep a 1:58-1:58.5 average for the first 4500m and sprint the last few hundred metres you'll have a new PB, and a reasonable target for a future attempt. It's a bit like adding 2.5kg to the bar every workout.

For your next 1k, you could do the first 500m in 1:41 and try to accelarate in the second half.

Perfectly flat splits are ideal in theory, but difficult to achieve mentally and physically.

My first night doing cardio in about 14 months on Tuesday and hit 500m in 1min 40 bang on.

Gonna keep them in for next 12 weeks or so try to shed the ever expanding gut, hopefully get a bit closer to the top of that table too!!
