Good effort Aaron, very fast 100m. Personally grip is never close to being tested. I know it may sound counter intuitive, but try only gripping the handle on the pull and relaxing your grip for the rest of the stroke so the handle is almost loose in your hands.

Just checked and you’re in World Record territory. Not too bad for a first attempt!

Thank you mate. Just looked at your other times... feel like a 90kg bench presser watching julius maddox! Crazy.
Might sound a bit nancy, do you chalk up to row!? By hands/forearms/bicep tendon start screaming even after 300m. I legit think that's the biggest limiter on my 500m; cardio is 95% there I think, it's the muscular side.

Now you know how I feel about your squats. Happy

I've definitely used chalk for longer rows, and wristbands, headband, depending on room temperature. Not sure about a 500. Everything hurts after a max effort, but my grip has never failed.
Like Bim said your grip should be fairly loose and open on the handle. Being able to relax a little bit on the recovery phase can also save you a lot of energy.

Cheers lads. Will have a crack tomorrow and see how I get on, I think I do squeeze the life out of it for the entirety. Will try relaxing on the forward.

Just looked at the world record, seems a few people have actually beaten it... Guessing the WR has to be done in an actual event or something?

The 500m record is insane!

One last thing; do you typically have it on max drag for the sprints? The 100m I feel I lose half a second getting the first pull going

2000m - 7:04.8 - 24 seconds off previous best

That was very satisfying indeed. I'm enjoying the 2000m distance. Enough time that tactics plays a part in it, to an extent.

Here we go!

Excellent work, Jonathan.

You'll soon be topping some of these leaderboards no doubt.

36? I reckon you are just getting started. 6.30 has to be your goal?

Should be pretty doable.

I competed for a couple of years (15 and 16) in 10 mile timetrials with road cycling. Only did one national competition just before I was 16 but I picked up tendonitis in my left hamstring/knee, which put paid to that.

My point is that I am not very fit at the moment, but I was very fit then. It must be a height thing again, but my lung capacity is monstrous, even at my present low level of fitness. I always get given the bag of balloons whenever there is a kids party because I can blow them up in one breath.

Anyway, I am enjoying the rowing and will push it a bit more now. I sat down after the session this afternoon coasting an epic endorphine wave and it felt good.

I'll try to get onto the rower 3 times a week and I'll see how I get on. I'll focus on the 2000m distance.

Second session of the day. Did a 1:26.9 500m after some heavy (for me) deadlifting.

Was solidly on a 1:23/1:24 pace for the first 200m but the fatigue of the deadlifts, the earlier rowing and yesterdays upper back session caught up with me.

First pop at 5000m - 18:41

Felt OK. Bit more in the tank but long-distance certainly isn't my forte!

I have a better 5000m time to report: 18:06. 34 seconds off the only other time I've tried 5k Grin
