Its going to be like anything, you will get good and bad coaches. Where I work,a lot of people go into S and C from a sport science background and may not have a decent or basic grounding in strength sport and training before becoming qualified. While at Uni they see the applied nature of the profession and become interested in it and then look to do it as a career. That's not to devalue their knowledge but they do not always embody what we would hope a good strength coach to be.

But, as a profession and working within sport, there is more to training people than just the gym stuff. Quite often, the S & C coach will be doing a ton of other training with them, like speed training, rehab work, movement s**t, etc. Strength training is only one piece of the puzzle.

However personally, I like to see coaches embody what they want others to be, or have actually done something in the past and of course, I like coaches to have clients that are an example of what they know/can do. I do struggle to value the opinions of those coaches that do not practice what they preach though. There are so many things that you only learn by doing or experiencing yourself. Training can be a complete headf**k and like fighting fire/problem solving, and some things you only understand by actually having them happen to you.

100kg guy with 200kg deadlift and 100kg bench is not very strong. So wat are these guys being taught exactly?

Anyone had any coachings on here? It's got me puzzled

So why did he contact you?!

In fairness to coaches there are a multitude of dimensions to strength and conditioning and our vision in fairly biased as to what is important. Long distance runners have a very different need from their 'strength and conditioning' coach and rarely require someone with an 800lbs deadlift Happy

Is it wrong that when I hear strength & conditioning coach I think legitimate coach but when I hear personal trainer I immediately think businessman...

I'm sure there are some phenomenal personal trainers out there just the majority I see are trying to sell their time slots rather than their trade or expertise.

Personal achievements other than "being ripped last summer for a bit" are key I think, it shows genuine interest and passion.

Don't forget some were classed as 'misses' (M) instead of fails (F) Grin whatever all that meant...

Sorry Hixxy haven't really got anything helpful to add, maybe the guy wanted you to lower whatever price you quoted him as his uncle would potentially do it for free (whether he was successful or not I suppose)
